a) A MMO doesn't stagnate at a level out of clever design, but all the opposite. You were being played, they simply made the stick extra long and goaded you to believe the carrot would be the best ever.

b) Try having a life instead of "working" (working is a good word for XI though) for 6 years. I rather be PLAYING in several 1 year increments than working for 6.
