Sure, -just- lore would be a cop out. But (rose colored glasses as usual) I can hope they put a little more thought into the changes than the superficial stuff. A recent post in the JP forums indicated that post 1.19 we're going to see a lot of tying together of seemingly random elements. Perhaps... maybe... if we're lucky...

Eve Online doesnt suffer from item storage restrictions. There are literally thousands of stations, and each npc station can hold an absurd number of items. You are only restricted when transporting goods. Considering that Eve Online is not a new game, I do not understand why we even have inventory restriction. It shouldnt even be an issue.

That being said i get the feeling that many people complaining about inventory space either want to carry everything they own around, or are storing items they will wont use for months on end.

Back on topic, honestly, i do not think the average person will notice as large of a change in there inventory demands as they think they will. As a 50 armorer i can repair most things with iron square, bronze square/rings/plates. Frankly, i have supplies of that stuff for money making synths anyhow. Its not like i am going to be able to free myself from having those mats on retainer. Now ill need to have 5 additional types of dark matter to repair stuff instead of using common mats i have on hand for other purposes anyway. Its craft dependent, but for most people, this isnt going to be as big of an inventory saver as they think it will be.

As for the magic goo thing. This is a really common thing to do. Most games use currency at an npc ie. WoW and Eve Online. In that case, currency is your magical goo. Others have a model that ffxiv will be employing.

The only real change is that i wont need to make mats to repair with. ill need to gather them myself or buy them instead.

I never suffer from my inventory being. I almost always have 20-40 slots of free inv on my person, 50+ on one retainer and i only use my second retainer for buying selling. That said, i store all of my repair mats for 4 crafts and have no problem.

But im not bothered by this change at all. I was happy to npc all of my iron rings and nuggets this morning. I cant believe everyone would rather have a system like we had. Granted there wasnt a problem with it, but it was still overly cumbersome.

Yep, you cannot make everyone happy. Universal rule of life.

My opinion is that while repair helped immersion somewhat for crafters it did not provide _any_ gameplay improvement, and was a pain in the a$$ for most people (and not only for inventory reasons). I think there are many ways to help immersion, repair was jut one of them and not the best one. I trust there is more to come to appease crafters.

That's cute, I like how you made your concerns in favour of the current repair system totally legitimate while providing only a piece of the concern against it and turning that around to make it the players' fault.

On behalf of those bumbling, incompetent inventory keepers, I'll just say that number of items isn't the only problem. How about having to craft the repair material? Sure, cotton fent is only Weaver rank 11, but the cotton cloth you make it from is rank 19. Completely senseless from a gameplay perspective, so are we allowing yet another hassle for the sake of immersion? Does this even help immersion?

    Bottom line:

This is the most sensible post I've seen anywhere on these forums. There's a cost/benefit balance we should be striving to keep. I just don't see how having to gather a material to craft a material to craft a repair material to FINALLY repair your item goes anywhere near keeping that balance, particularly considering the only benefit is that there's a different icon in your repair window. I mean, you don't even add the repair materials yourself - where's the outcry of immersion-killing because repair materials just jump onto your damaged gear?

Immersion is a nice keyword, but it's not a reason for a feature alone. Making this game for Kinect where you have to go through the sewing motions to repair your damaged shirt would be more immersive. It's easy to dismiss that as an "extreme" example, but being extreme isn't what makes it stupid - sacrificing sensible (fun) gameplay for the sake of immersion is.

Dark matter might not be the best solution to this problem, but at least it's an attempt at addressing it. And I for one am actually willing to try it before complaining about it.

"repairing with dark matter isn't immersive!"

    Oh goodness...

Yes! Yoshi-P please delay the patch 2 more months to retract this overhaul! I don't care if the new materia system equals more income for me! Also I will feel less immersed and I have an item collecting fetish. Also this change allows for stupid people to repair gear now...

    Did I miss anything?
