I played FFXI for 6 years and never had to pay for anything nor even seen this remotely close as widespread as you re making it out to be. If anything, people where the one coming at you shouting and spamming "sell tongue pls, sell black belt item plzzzz" that we just shrugged off. You complete anything with a half decent LS.
I also played for 6 years and went through 2 different servers, perhaps you never saw it, i remember a while back i was shouting for help with a limit break quest and someone responded "how much you going to pay me?" mind you i was never desperate enough to ever waste gill on clears or anything related to content clearing/monster slaying i am just stating observation facts. just because you never experinced it on your 1 server ( i assume) doesn't meant it didn't happen, obviously i had a group/LS/freinds eventually, but it was still there.


And i know all to well with the constant begging of Black belt items as i was heavily into an HNM LS as the main WHM, god that crap was annoying..
