FFXIV Temps on GTX460

Peoples biggest problem seems to be the HD they have. I don't see any info on what HD's you plan to get but consider getting a SATA 3 SSD or do a Raid 0 drive setup with standard HD's.

Indeed, if $$$ allows get an SSD. If you cannot afford an SSD (they are still expensive) I recommend Haitachi hard drives. They are some of the best on the market current, and you will have less problems with them than others. If you can afford 2, a Raid 0 works best. But if one, you won't regret Haitachi.

ah im getting a 2TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Hard Drive).
I was thinking about the SSD but yeah maybe later when cost comes down for them.

Your choice, but Sandy Bridge is the best bang for the buck at present time. This will change when Bulldozer and Ivy Bridge hit, the first of which is soon. I'd suggest waiting.

2TB HDDs are usually pretty slow and the 6Gbit/s is only the inferface bandwidth and not the actual drive speed. Best get a small system HDD and a big HDD for less important files like movies and pictures. There's lots of tests around the web about HDD speeds.
And I would also wait for the new Bulldozers.

You don't want a huge single drive all the 6GB/s 64MB etc... means nothing really. The hard drive still has to spin and find the pieces of info needed. The thing with standard HD's is how they write to disk. Since the drive has to spin the info gets tossed all around the drive and it's this putting the pieces back together that hurts. You can get much better results with two smaller drives then that one large 2T drive. Probably for much less then the 2T drive you can get 2x1T and raid 0 them.

Yeah I shoulda got 2x1T drives but I dont know what hit me with just a 2TB, Ill probably just get a smaller drive and convert the 2Tb for movies, musics, and pictures like Coldire mentioned. If i go for a smaller drive should I even consider SSD or one with a higher RPM say 10000 over the 7200s. Like say the Western Digital VelociRaptor WD6000HLHX 600GB 10000 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s? 250$ though...

I would suggest an SSD for your OS and for FF, and everything else on the 2TB.
