Dunno if it was patented, but yeah it appears as though they did it first...

Doesn't matter though, its an awesome technology that keeps this beastly GPU quite cool...
And in all honesty, I feel that water cooling it really only required for the enthusiast gamers or OC builders that must have the highest e-peen benchmark scores running tri/quad SLi/Crossfire setups. With a proper PC case, like the Antec 1200 or Coolmaster Haf, and with the right components, air cooling is more than enough for the standard gamer.

I dont know my temp yet, currently in the process of building a gaming pc just wondering if it will be enough for FFXIV
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-960 3.20 GHz 8M Intel Smart Cache LGA1366
Mobo: GigaByte G1.Guerrilla Intel X58 Chipset
Memory: 12GB DDR3/1600MHz Triple Channel Memory Kingston HyperX
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 HD 2.5GB
PSU: 1000watts

Peoples biggest problem seems to be the HD they have. I don't see any info on what HD's you plan to get but consider getting a SATA 3 SSD or do a Raid 0 drive setup with standard HD's.I dont know my temp yet, currently in the process of building a gaming pc just wondering if it will be enough for FFXIV

960 isn't on this site, so I went with the 970: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/157?vs=288
Your choice, but Sandy Bridge is the best bang for the buck at present time. This will change when Bulldozer and Ivy Bridge hit, the first of which is soon. I'd suggest waiting.
Bulldozer and Ivy Bridge prolly won't be available until spring 2012 at the earliest last I heard. And after how bad a launch Sandy Bridge had, {not saying it'd happen again} but I'd wait until fall 2012 to get those new CPUs. For now Sandy Bridge is more than enough to help destroy any current game with a good GPU.

Watercooling is the ideal way to cool parts that normally are problematic: HDD, GPU, SB, Mosfet.
But it's pretty expensive 'cause of the low demand. My cooling system is pretty old already. I upgrade some parts from time to time though. If you want to build your own silent highend system it's definately worth looking into.
So it's the same as a case basically. It can last several years and is easily upgradable/extendable.
Btw the CM HAF and Antec 1200 are designed for watercooling :P
True , but I like my Antec 1200 on air...my GPU temps are great as I already posted them, and my CPU temps even on full load barely register at 45c.
As for the noise that fans make...I never quite figured out why so many complain about it. Even when I have my 580 whirling away at 85% it sounds like a typical fan. I do however have a 7.1 speaker system, so maybe the gaming noise has drowned it out, but all-in-all its never bugged me. I guess those that have their PC in rooms where other family members are and they have headphones on, it may bother them...dunno

Seems normal, my 460 gets fairly hot also, 80c or so around Gridania. Settings are all high / standard for drawing quality.

Playing in windowed mode took 10c off the temps, so far so good also seems to have stop the jerkyness that i was getting in the game.
