Did you know, I prefer just a Chocobo/dragon system. Too many mounts and it just becomes cheesey.

Too much variety and it impinges on the artistic style of the universe.

Have you ever seen one of those Predator Vs. Alien movies? Or a Ninja Vs. Alien movie? That is what happens when you throw everything but the kitchen sink at the audience. It's just not pretty.

Restraint is sometimes necessary when creating a gameworld.

Nah, I'd say more than chocobos and dragons but not like so many its rediculous.

I guess mounts dont nessesarily have to be for travel, but for some fun interesting content.

Well magitek (or something like it) would not be out of the question. My main concern would be if the ideas presented in the OP like hogs and dodos or what-have-you, I don't think that would fit. Like I just don't think it would fit is all I'm trying to say.

Agreed, Dodos and Hogs sound WoWish to me. All those miscellaneous animals are irrelevant
