So they're going to be rentals and just that as far as 1.19 is concerned?

I'm sorry to say but that's just extremely dissapointing... We've been told they weren't in the game at launch because they wanted them to be "more than just mounts" and now that we just might finally get to use them they're gonna be even less than that?

We just had a conversation about this. They are giving us rentals because we NEED transportation now. We'll still be getting the good stuff but later.

And really how useful can they be as rentals? We're already allowed to teleport pretty much everywhere, so unless we can call them/rent them from somewhere other than the main cities, it will always take far less time to just warp to the nearest Aetheryte and walk the rest of the way.

Because most likely once Chocobo and Airships are implemented they will be adjusting the anima system to follow suit. Most likely, anyway. So instead of spending your precious anima just to do a couple leves, even though you might need it later for a party group in Gridania, you can just grab a chocobo instead.
