New TANK idea

I was thinking of a new tank and wanted to see if anyone else liked the idea.
The job would be called Templar and would be a HIGH DEFENSIVE tank, more than what the pld is. And the weapon would be a HUGE shield, with the gear being huge as well. And the idea of it would be heavy damage taking and the skilld would be based around you putting spells on the shield. The spells for example could be def buffs, a spell that damages the attacker when hit, or one that u activate and all the damage u take for the next 5 or 10 sec gets put out to damage on the target or another with the same idea but
puts the taken damge to health for the team. plz tell me what you think.

If this is "concept" than it lacks a lot of details. How would that class be balanced? What skills exactly you want them to have as buffs? What combos? How they would generate the hate? What would be their story (background)? How should they spec and how (I mean by what) will they be different from WAR and PLD?

Honestly, you sound like a child who just want a big bad guy with big bad shield because he just saw one in some kind of cartoon.

Well I thought at one point if they did add new tanking classes with shields they could have one that's better with small shields, large shields and the pally for medium ones. The Templar one you mentioned could have defender as a class, use large shields and have a spear or halberd, have counter attacking skills rather than aggressive ones. it's a pretty vague idea but atm if/when they add a new tank (SE mentioned they will add a new tank and healer in the expansion) I'm guessing it'll be samurai. This is just guessing though.

On a side note if you watch the end of an era trailer you can see some soldiers using great shields and halberd/lance type weapons so it could be a possibility, although using a shield as a main weapon seems silly to me.

If they brought in something like this then I'd like it to be magitek based. Similar style to the Cape Westwind boss.

Except that no one in real life relied on a shield as a main weapon, they usually have a weapon of some kind (spear,halberd,sword). granted it would take a lot of practice but if someone else is using a weapon and knows how to use it a shield by itself isn't going to be enough unless the person you're fighting is an idiot or a comic book villain.
