Monmon started a thread about where all the surplus exp/points is going when it is being removed in 1.18. In the past the old dev team said in a interview that they 'may' include some type of system where they reward the hardcore players that kept on playing even in surplus/fatigue mode. Rep has responded to that thread so here goes,

疲労度の廃止に伴ってこれまで蓄積していた潜在値も廃止されますが、これに合わせて何かしらの還元を行うことは予定していません。何とぞご了承ください。
Please acknowledge that along with fatigue system being removed the surplus will also be removed and we are not planning any type of return.

There you go, the surplus exp is got sucked into a black hole which we will never see. We fed the black hole and the black hole gained exp/ranks and now it's shooting out a dark cloud that is going to take over the world of Eorzea and going to eat all of us. Damn all of you hardcore players!
