I say bring in Tetsuya Nomura. That man has made so much good looking outfits in the series he has done.
Akihiko's work in this game just isn't all that good to me....Not sure where the belt thing is coming from when
people talk about him...
the only person with an excessive amount of belts in the FF series is Lulu...I could be wrong and she has one the best designs.
Nomura is my favourite artist, next to Hyung Tae Kim. [He does Magna Carta/ Blade and Soul.]
Vanity won't solve this, I'd like to use gear as vanity too...not random vanity items that you only get 2 of each major patch.
But to each their own I guess. I just don't really like the gear in this game.

I'd just like more variety in general. I loved the i70 sets they included in 2.2 and I love the i80 sets in 2.3 but they're nearly impossible to get behind the horde of crafting items. I was also pretty disappointed to see them reuse so many of the same base sets. We have like what, 3-4 different ways to get something resembling infantry gear but only one way to get the divine gear look?

Most look weird w/o their belts, or just out of place when compared to the newer stuff.

Clearly there are people who agree. If not, it would have 0 likes. In all honesty, I would like to see better looking gear for glamour. I am not saying the current gear is horrible..but it just doesn't fit my personal taste. Let alone most of the other gear in this game are just reskins.

You can't please everybody all the time.

Since everyone has different tastes, there's a good chance you may not find something you absolutely love or that fits in with your tastes. They have to make a decision on what would fit in with the gear "theme" they're going with for a particular set, and then make it happen.

I personally love the new i80 gear. Finally got the full (visible) DRG armor, and glamoured my body to it (not a fan of the boots, and while the gloves are great with the body, I just have to show off my High Allagan. Need a helm that works with it though, and a new skirt or some good pants). Also have the Harvest body and feet glamoured on my SCH alt and it looks amazing (esp with the i90 crafted glasses). If I didn't love the new CT2 tank body so much (goes so well with the High Allagan gloves and circlet and the Ramuh Shield) I would have the i80 body glamoured instead. While I like the Fistfighter's body more than the new one for MNK, if I got the BRD shirt I may use it for glamour (even though I never play BRD at all...)
