Out off those things listed there are only 2 you actually want to worry about. Second Coil and Soldiery which are weekly lockouts. Literally all the rest is basically alternate content that can be completed daily or weekly, but it really makes no difference or you just finish it and be done with it like beastmen dailies.
I'd argue if someone feels so compelled to always do all these things every day or week there is probably some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder or something going on. Beyond making sure you get second coil done and your soldiery cap done you really just don't need to do all the rest of that stuff. You get the top loot from both those things and all the rest is honestly inferior rewards or just for fun.

If you post within the limits of your post, then edit that post, you can bypass the text limitation. In all honesty, I have no idea why SE hasn't just removed the limit already.

I think not many people really understand the point of view of a completionist. We didn't start playing RPGs as MMOs, and completing a game fully often unlocked a better ending or added content after the game was finished. Some of us play to COMPELTE a game, and suggesting "well, just don't bother with that" simply blows my mind to a degree. What am I paying for if not to get the full experience, whether good or bad?

But this is why I rarely pick up and try MMOs, due to the completionist disposition I naturally have. It truly is the wrong genre for me personally, but I still try it out occasionally (this is my 3rd MMO), never going more than 6 months before getting overrun with content and becoming "addicted", as Purrfectstorm eloquently explains is not a term to be used lightly.

Just like some people can't fathom doing all content daily or weekly (just after 2.2 is when I stopped, feeling unable to complete the challenge log every week) and I appreciate your concern of "playing in moderation" ...... I can't fathom PAYING month after month for a game I'll never complete or have enough time to do everything I want (by "everything I want", that means ALL content, good and bad).

It all comes down to different opinions. Different strokes for different folks. I wish the game the best, but the genre doesn't fit my playstyle as well as other peoples'. Like she stated before the completionist attitude isn't something that can easily be switched on and off at will.

And congrats for getting back into D&D, OP. It's a dead giveaway which one feels more like "fun" and which one feels more like a "job"!

No argument from me. It's a completely legit reason to justify why some of us don't play anymore. As for why I stick around on the forums, I tend to give some feedback for improving (because I still hold Square as a high standard RPG company), but mostly to keep in touch with friends and see if they're still having fun. Relay their info to the forums in some cases, since not everyone playing goes to the forums. I know you didn't ask why I was still here, Felis, just making a general statement about why some people tend to stick around.

Hmmm I'm well aware that games can be addictive which is why before I started playing did put some soft/hard limits on myself to keep me grounded atleast partially in RL. I do have some splurges here and there where I will go overboard but generally keep to my hard limits.

Frankly I play for the people not so much for the content. So if there aren't any friends around to do stuff with I kinda don't have the need to be online and go do other things.

So I can understand the OP if they have issues with the daily/weekly stuff thinking they are forced to do it. This is why I approach things with a clear mind of I'm not forced to do this... but I want to do this.

I stopped reading after first two pages and can only reply to OP with this - People usually play games because they like them and reasons why they like them differ for each person. If you don't like the game anymore then leave and find the one you like. If you feel that playing videogames takes too much of your time then just stop playing them and find another hobby.
You are not forced to do every single thing that FF XIV offers to you on daily basis just because developers added them to game - you can take things slowly one by one or multitask, get friends or solo most of content, some people even spend more time chatting in FF XIV than doing anything else.

I think a lot of people feel the way you do: that soldiery and Coil is all that matter because those things lead directly to better gear. However, for me personally, better gear (which you will only need for content that hasn't come out yet) is just as much vanity as mounts, minions, or anything else. It may seem weird to people who share your point of view that not getting all the 2.3 minions before 2.4 comes out feels like "falling behind" but there you have it. Some people don't just play for better gear.

I quit back in December the very moment they added daily content in patch 2.1 because I did not want to feel the pressure of reporting daily to a video game.

Now that I'm not up to date and I know every piece of gear will be meaningless 1 or 2 patches away, I play at my own pace and I'm having a lot of fun discovering all the new things that got added since I left.

Hi, I bolded the part of your post I found the most relevant. I know there are a lot of pages to this thread already but I think it's just good form and respectful to others to read all the posts before posting. If you had, you would know that the point of view you're sharing has been offered several times.

To address your first point, I do like FFXIV as a whole, I just think that the direction they're going is requiring me to spend more of my time to achieve what I want to achieve in the game.

I don't feel like video games in general are taking too much of my time, just FFXIV specifically. In fact, I find spending 4+ hours a day on several different video games enjoyable. However, FFXIV forces out my other interests, which is where the unhappiness comes in. I want to play and I want to accomplish things but I also want to have time to do other stuff. If FFXIV hits that sweet spot, I'd sub forever.

And lastly, I know I am not "forced" to do things in the game (that comment has also been previously made several times in this thread) but SE makes boring things the most efficient (running Brayflox HM for Myth over and over in last patch, for example).
