Speaking generally, while most MMO open worlds aren't that 'dangerous', FFXIV's open world questing by and large consists of 'kill eight comically easy things for me and bring me the thing' even at the endgame daily rep level, where most games offer a bit more variety. Even World of Wickershins offers daily quest objectives that are usually more engaging than 'kill eight mans'. (Though they also have a lot of 'kill eight mans' quests.) TSW had investigation quests, City of Heroes had...well, everything in City of Heroes (bank heists if you were a villain, player made content, more fluff storylines to play through than you could shake a stick at, etcetera.)

Hunting and Treasure Maps were supposed to fill the gaps, but unfortunately treasure maps are useless and Hunting is a tad too useful so the intended challenge in doing it kind of doesn't exist.

When I read the title I thought you had a good reason.

    Oh well.

I only posted here to voice my opinion on this one subject

Then you go on to attack me about not being suited to mmo's .. cute , between 11 and wow I have 5 years
Quit because this game is substandard and boring not because it's too hard

You can't have my stuff, enjoy your substandard mmo , bye
Yet your still here? On a forum for a game you don't play? OK....

Also maybe consider just cutting back instead. Some of the timed/lockout stuff isn't really necessary to fully enjoy the Eorzean experience. For example, my real life schedule makes it practically impossible for me to commit to a Coil group, so I just run Coil when I've got some extra time in PF groups or with my FC when they need a last minute sub - I in no way feel obligated that I need Coil to enjoy the rest of the game.

Pick out the stuff that's time-gated that you don't really need to do, or that you can just do on fewer days during the week, rather than trying to get everything done every day/week. Ex: my main game goal is the novus right now, and last week I only logged on enough times to make sure I could get my Sphere Scroll by the end of the week - a few quick roulettes daily and then log off to slay real life. Real life is more important to have sorted out properly anyway, so you can always let "hardcore status" slide if there are more important things to do.

I totally get what you're saying. A lot of other posters have said something in a similar vein so I just want to point out that when you're talking about addiction, it's not so simple. Trust me when I say I don't toss the word "addiction" around lightly. No matter how little I try to do in the game, it always turns into a lot more. I'm a completionist, I do feel like I have to do everything. With that in mind, this is what my logic looks like:

    1) I have to be able to do everything in the game to have fun.
    2) Doing everything in the game that's on my list takes 6-8 hours per day.
    3) I don't have 6-8 hours to spend on the game.
    4) Therefore I can't do everything.
    5) Which means I can't have fun.

By the way, this is what my daily/weekly list looks like:

Daily Expert Roulette / Alexandrite Map: 30-45 min (for Novus)
Daily Trial Roulette (good myth, possible primal weapon for desynthesis): 10-15 min
Daily Guildhest (good gil/seals for time spend, working towards Enraptured Servitude achievement): 5 min
Daily Map (gather and treasure hunt): 5 - 20 min
Craft/Gather items to sell on the marketboards: 2+ hours
6 Leves (for GC seals, so leves don't go to waste, and for achievements): 20 min
    Supply/Provisioning Missions (for GC seals/achievements): 10 min
Daily Hunts: 15 min (not counting going AFK to do something else for the Fate ones)

This brings me to 3 hrs. 35 min. to 4 hrs. 10 min. per day, approximately x 7 days a week is about 25 - 29 hours per week on daily game activities.

    Now for weekly stuff:
    10 Frontlines per week for Challenge Log = 15 - 20 min x 10 or 2.5 - 3.3 hours per week
Syrcus Tower = 1 hr. x ? (so far average of 2 per week) = 2 hours per week

And we're at 29.5 - 34.5 hours per week already. This is not counting helping FC members, getting sidetracked by hunt spawns, trying to beat Ramuh EX or Second Coil, messing around w/ Gardening, etc. As you can see, I don't literally do "everything" as it is, just the things that will help me progress in each area of the game in the most efficient manner. I don't do any of the other roulettes for example.

When I cut my play time down to a sane level (in my opinion less than 2 hours per day) I find I have time to do Expert Roulette and maybe 1-2 other things. I really hope I'm not subbing for a game to run the same 3 dungeons each 3 month cycle...

Alright, I don't know how to write long posts like you guys, it's limiting me to a stupidly short amount of characters, so I'll have to Multi-post.

See, your problem is that you have much perspective and a good level of reasoning, but you're blind-sided to something here. Your own approach to the game. Take a moment and try to think, "Why is it so important for me to be most efficient at the game?" Because yes, while the game design does share a part of the blame, your own approach to it is not without fault too. You are making it into a job because you are obsessed to tick all those boxes in the list everyday, just because you can, just because you feel that you should. But should you?

I play this game casually, and I enjoy it a lot. I don't do by beast-tribes everydays. I do them when I can and when I feel like it. Sometimes I log on, I don't feel like doing those side-quests, and I just don't. I don't my roulettes every day either. I almost never cap my soldieries, until this new patch I didn't have much Weathered gear. And yet, I manage to progress just fine in the game, at my own pace, at my own leasure. I am not a burden to my friends and teammates, I beat T5 and I have T6 unlocked, I have the Primals Ex Weekly unlocked, I consider myself far enough into end-game, so clearly the fact that I don't do all that Daily/Weekly content Every days/every weeks isn't hindering me.

So, what I mean to say is, I feel like you are rejecting blame on a video game and SE because you refuse to take any responsability for your own behavior. The game doesn't force you to do anything, Daily/Weekly content is just limited in such ways to prevent people from abusing it and becoming Godly-Player-Characters too fast, it doesn't mean you have to become obsessive about it and DO it every days/weeks. That's your fault, you need to take responsability for that and acknowledge that you lost self-control, and didn't do other activities of IRL that you should've been doing. Just my two cents.

I had not read the last two posts including the Thread Creator last post either, when I wrote mine. In retrospect, my posts felt kind of redundant after those, sorry. I'm glad to see you realize some of the real problems that are at hand here, OP, and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

You're misunderstanding me if you think I don't take responsibility or I'm blaming SE completely. However, my attitude towards the game has changed greatly as more daily/weekly content has been added. It was easier for me to play at a reasonable level before SE added all the timered content. I don't want to give up playing but it's become a lot harder to achieve my in-game objectives. What I don't understand is why people keep posting what amounts to "have different objectives then" or "just play less." It's not a switch I can just flip on and off.

All I have been saying is this: game was fun for me before, game is not fun for me now. This is a subjective experience. It's not like anyone can argue someone else out of their subjective experience so why do people keep trying? You say to "take responsibility" which I'm doing by you know, not playing. And you might say SE is not to blame whatsoever for this but you know they did create the whole daily/weekly metagame that has led to my unfun subjective experience.

The reason I made a post about this was to connect with people who might be struggling with game addiction also and to suggest that SE ease up on the time-gated content that might make a game addict feel they have to play at times they really don't want to.

Lastly, you can get around the post limit by editing your post (more silliness on SE's part).

    Edit:

Don't worry, most of this post seems redundant after reading your last post also
