i think how manny likes the op has says it all.
Bad idea. Look at our UI and tell me "Large scale PvP" is a good idea.
I agree completely.Personally, I have no interest in playing PvP and I think the devs should be more concerned about all the minor junk that's completely bass-ackwards in the game before adding things.
That being said I can understand their thinking in implementing it, there are alot of people who's main interest in MMOs is the pvp aspect. And the devs realize they can't ignore that market.
As others have said, as long as in implementing PvP they don't adversely effect PvE it won't bother me. I'd just like to see more polish before I see people whacking each other.

Honestly, I think SE would do an awful job when it comes to balancing classes/jobs for PvP, judging from the state of the classes and skills right now and what they've done with them via minor tweaks. They'd have to introduce many skills that are designed for PvP as well, and then make them work properly (better stealth/hide, fake death, traps and snares and so on) Right now everyone would be able to have every skill (except the few class-locked that we have right now) and you'd probably be butchered constantly by the best build once it's discovered. I'm thinking THM with GLA/ARC/CON skill mix or something along those lines seeing how well they do at soloing high ranked roaming NMs, but I might be wrong.
PvP would also need to be introduced somehow into the world of XIV as, right now, I don't see why people would kill each other, judging from what little storyline and lore we have. Perhaps a war between the 3 cities will erupt? Or maybe a tournament/arena could be introduced.
The only PvP that I really enjoyed, and ever really played was the one in LotRO. For those not familiar: You could separately have a whole new 'mob' character with whom you played against regular players on PvP specialized maps. I loved the idea of playing on the opposite side, as a Warg, against the good guys, and have my monster character level up and gain skills much like my main character would, and it also added tons of fun when battling my guildmates and snapping their necks![]()
The standard PvP, especially if open world, no thanks. I try to keep out of it as much as I can, and don't like being randomly PKed. Optional large-scale PvP could work (but I still think the LotRO formula would work best for several reasons).

Open world PvP? no, keep it out. Instanced PvP so that I don't have to deal with childish people that like to gank PvE people because they didn't get McDonalds for supper? Sure.
Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing

I say Keep gladiators true to their class. Let them and ONLY them participate in like arena events, and allow people to wager coin on who will win!
I would totally cheer on the glads in my LS!

just gona repost from other pvp thread.
Below we have the results of player asked questions from FFXIVCore.com that was asked to Hiromichi Tanaka about FFXIV. Grab a cup of coffee or something nice, such as orange juice and please enjoy reading our exclusive interview with the producer of FFXIV himself.
What about PVP?
We have the same stance on PVP as we had in FFXI, we're having a focus on PVE, but we may introduce some sort of sports-type that might be tied to PVP in the future. What we're worrying about is that we dont want to have any PK'ing or harassment types of activities in the game. So in order to provide a safe environment to everyone and a game to enjoy. So we're not focusing on PVP.
i believe this was in 2009
but id also like to add from FF14 news.com
Issues with PvP
dead bodies can drive away people uninterested in PvP if it is forced. From our experience, the people that truly enjoy PvP in MMOs are the same types of people that play games like Counter-Strike, Team Fortress and other first-person shooters. The issue is that there are a large number of people that have a distaste for fighting others: they do not enjoy the stress that comes along with it. If the PvP system of an MMO is designed in a way where you are always in PvP situations (open-world PvP), it can drive away the players that are only there for the PvE content and hanging out with friends. World of Warcraft attempted to address this by providing the choice between servers open and closed to world PvP.
hmm that sounds like males 14-25?
i dont like wow and im not a fan of brainless fps. =p
although i do know some people like those. i think it would be to hard for a company (SE) to do both and do it right.
competitive mmo's need pvp i know. just dont force it on us and dont change pve.

more reasons for e-peens? no thanks!!
im a lover not a fighter ^.~

Yes, but if you just have gladiator pvp in a coluseam sort of thingy where events are scheduled, and you can wager on who will win.. then it would be epic!!!

I think the game would have some adjustments needed to add pvp into the mix. pvp is best when it is fast paced... and there are lots of other factors involved in creating a successful pvp experience. I just don't think it's in Squares nature to add have PVP in their games.I recently started a thread thinking I discovered Large Scale PVP through a translation only to be enlightened that I had read it last week and forgot. Oh well, my main point was to really find out about what people think about large scale pvp in ffixv. I know many people say this isn't that kind of game and if they want that go play wow, while other will say they can have it its not like your being forced to partake. What do you think.
I for one think it will be a welcomed addition to a content starved game and will need it to compete with other games that have it. If you are not being forced to play it what can it hurt.
