I understand what you are saying and I've honestly come to the conclusion that the best way to play this game efficiently is tragically to unsub for 6 months and then come back (or even more efficiently rotate every 3 months). This might not make sense initially but it's an error at the very core of the game.
Because they make timesinks in 6 month rotations, opting out for a rotation means when u come back that sink will be less formidable, but you end up able to complete it more efficiently later. So what implemented to sink the content is either completely able to be bypassed (like doh/dol) or becomes unlocked in dow.
About the only aspect of the game this doesnt particularly apply to is Relic DoW upgrades, but those are never as good as what u 'can' get without bothering with that system. There is a possibility this will be true also with the DoH/DoL upgrades and they have more potential utility than the DoW relics since there isn't any instantly better and rival options at their release but there's no way to be sure until their 6 month rotation occurs.
Of course another way to do it that doesnt involve unsubing is to do DoW for 3 months then do DoH/DoL for 3 months, but trying to stay current at both at the same time throughout is completely pointless the way they have decided to go about implementing content. But that way depends on whether you see the value in the sub if you abandon one part for another every 3 months.
Rotating what you do when u play every 3 months can be detrimental to the groups you play with if they don't agree with the utility of it, but the 6 month life-cycles of the game makes it to where if u do manage this appropriately you can get more done with limited time over-all.

I honestly don't get this. Your problem is that they put in the Forager's stuff? If they just left that out and you were attempting to get your Supra Relic without the Spectacles and Forager's Tool it'd be somehow better?I don't think it's the point they added more but they added even more right after that. Would have been nice to just let us upgrade our original relics in the first place but they made us mine, harvest, fish and craft for new gear and tools only to screw us that worked hard getting them and still working on some. This is SE's problem, they put little thought into what they do and end up messing everyone up.
I mean it does seem overwhelming when I think about all the work that goes into Supra, but I really don't have an issue if they add new recipes with a few incremental upgrades to make things easier for someone who hasn't fully melded everything yet.

That's honestly the worst way to be looking at 2.3 crafting/gathering content. There is literally nothing that you cannot make or gather without the new equips. 2.2 gear is all you need to make any 3 star recipe, even the augmented and primal goods. There's very little change involved even after acquiring the i75 weapons, as you'll still need to have at least some HQ mats to reliably HQ the result (just as it is without i75 weapons).I don't think it's the point they added more but they added even more right after that. The way I look at it, the new equips and such help remove some of the reliance on materia to reach the required minimum to make 3 star goods. I mean just getting the Dodore HQ gives you 5 extra control by a base stat... that's 1+ less materia to have to worry about to reach minimum 3 star reqs. And that's just the belt.
Even if you are new to crafting, you have to have a decent strategy to survive. Not enough shards? There's a special way to quickly gain thousands without buying or gathering. Not enough gil but tons of shards/crystals/clusters? Why not sell some? For a new player, selling goods that you may not even realize you have is a part of surviving the market that they need to pick up for themselves. There are tons of goods that one can gather themselves in minutes that will lead to 30k+ profit. T1 materia selling for a decent profit? I can farm up 11+ of them in around 5min. That's no exaggeration neither. Given the price that craft/gathering materia costs, that 11+ materia is a minimum 50k profit on my server. There's seriously so many ways that people can work the economy, regardless of how outrageous some goods may be, to get what they want. Things won't just be handed to people (usually), if they really want something... think a little outside the box. Maybe apply some RL strategies.
As someone who does this from time to time, it gets REALLY tedious sitting through the intro (I just AFK) and leveling them to 10, then finishing the first few class quests. I highly recommend being plvl'd, it saves a lot of time. And depending on server, you can only make alts during late/early hours lol... locked out from making new characters otherwise.
I think people have failed to realize this is the most important factor in your decision. Sure, people can say, "Oh I have a full-time job/college and I have enough time to play." Most of the time they aren't responsible for the lives of other people. I can hardly blame you for not wanting to continue the ridiculous grind of crafting.
