ToD is used in the beginning because if you're not using PB to get to GL3 in 3 GCDs, then you're going to get to it in 9 GCDs, at which point delaying it by a single GCD is not that big a deal. Furthermore, ToD is a very long duration DoT, yet one of MNK's most powerful skills. It's the 2nd strongest skill (270 potency total), second only to Demolish(310 potency total).

Therefore, getting it placed on the target straight away is desirable. If one puts it off for buffs, then it's hard to figure out where to stop. May as well wait for a stack of GL3. Another stack of GL3? Just ends up delaying it even more, which means less use of ToD in the fight.

As for clipping ToD, it's a waste of a GCD to clip it so early. There would be no point to having used it in the first place if you planned on clipping it 10 only 10 seconds later.

So ever since I got to a 2.07 second gcd I always get the case where I get to demo at 8 seconds left. Is it better to delay the dot till the next stance and replace it as it falls off or use fracture or another move then use demo at 6 seconds remaining?

Yea not sure how I got 320 pot in my previous post.. 25 * 10 + 20 is indeed 270.. (must have thought 30 * 10 for some reason) Hooray for math! Lol

    Thanks for clarifying Noctis.

How does one get to a 2.07 gcd? I thought each additional skill and spell speed was worth .000952? So if one had say an insanely high 500 skill speed(with no outside buffs) that's 500*1.15(GL3)-341= 234 *0.000952 = 0.22 2.5-0.22 = 2.28 GCD Did I calculate this wrong? Does the increase to "attack speed by 5%" apply to the GCD itself? I thought it applied to the Skill Speed total.

If you don't have ToD up on the target, use it to delay enough to overwrite Demo at <6s.

If you do have ToD on the target, but you used it before the last time you applied DK + Twin, use Fracture to delay as above.

If you applied ToD after your last application of DK + Twin, just use Snap Punch and carry on.

Side Note: Though it mat just be the luck of the draw in new gear drops, etc., I hope you're not stacking SkS lol.

The increased attack speed is applied to your existing rate of attack. It's not a boost to skill speed it's a boost to attack speed outright which means it also increases autoattack speed as well. If you're a monk and have a 2.28 GCD with GL3 up then something is very wrong.

By saying it's a boost to atk speed outright does that mean it's applied directly to GCD? Like 15% of what the GCD value itself would be at 500 instead of 15% added on to 500.

I was curious about that, actually. Been reading it's best for PS3/4 players to lock on target to keep the auto-attack going since it's a good chunk of MNK's damage. I'm not a big fan of the lock-on target because the UI covers up the bottom part of the screen which makes it difficult to see the exact position of my lil lala fighter (camera rotation sucks when locked on, yes what a beautiful rock wall/ceiling/giant tree in my way).. Thought about moving the hotbars, but creature of habit, you know, I don't want to change it xD

Factor up your GCD with your skill speed, and then reduce it by 15%.

This is why autoattack is such a large and important part of our damage. Missing autoattacks because of randomly not facing the target is bad. Unfortunately I am not using a controller or legacy movement so I do not have this issue, and have no real advice for you other than do whatever you can to minimize missing autoattack intervals.

Not sure as I am a PC player. But from other PS players are saying, if on legacy mode, lock on target for AA otherwise you can strafe.
