every answer about the hunt from the live letter was missing the point... they are trying to defend them feature, because in japan it work!
but FF14 is not only distribued in Japan... the system have too many flaws and need a real rework...
and not simply add new FATE without UI that drop ton of token that allows to break down the balance of the gears progression!

The difference is that in one game, you were on your main job which had ways to deal with these situations. In this game, they threw away the side-job aspect of leveling these gathering classes and instead made them a super weak and useless class that can't do much of anything in the way of protecting themselves. I think that some of the things gatherers are asking for aren't unreasonable. You are comparing apples and oranges with bringing up XI in this instance.

This doesn't seem like a good reason at all. For one it's perfectly simple to program this inconvenience away. If players are doing a leve you can happily sit in all the aoe indicators you want. That mob belongs to someone else's duty and the two of you cannot interact with each other at all. They could just make it so that if you're not on the enmity list the the elite marks cannot hurt you (they could still aggro you if they spawn on top of you though). As soon as you attack to get credit you're 'in the fight' if you never attack or heal anybody then you're not 'in the fight'. Simple.

Also, I wouldn't mind if they had actual difficult mechanics. I think it would be great if several people died during a typical encounter. It would draw out the fight and at least make it look like skill was needed, although the mobs would probably still be overwhelmed by the brute force of so many players.

You really need to get over this hate for the Japanese lol. Nothing about those answers were defending anything - They mentioned expanding Frontlines because it's popular especially among the Japanese which use it more than the west.

No, it does not work in Japan either. That's why Japanese players are complaining about it on the Japanese forums too.

I was trying to draw the comparison between difficulty, rather than the main job/sub class difference. Even though you were on a "battle-class" in ffxi, it was still way more difficult than what you have in FFXIV. I know this game isn't ffxi, I just find it funny that DoL's are complaining about an S rank hunt mob killing them while they're trying to harvest. It really isn't that hard to avoid, especially if you're using stealth / paying attention.

I never found out what was there, but that was one of the really awesome things about 1.0 - there really was a sense of danger. You could die at any time if you weren't paying attention to your surroundings. That's what made the open world fun and interesting! Now it feels the open world is just a pretty waiting room while waiting on your next queue to pop.
I remember that several areas in FFXI were like that.

Yet I prefer the open-world in FFXIV a lot more.

Why? Because being able to kill stuff that agros me is a hell of a lot more fun than MGSing through zones or ignoring them altogether.

    Every monster should have:

    Level 5 petrify
    Level 10 death
Level 2 old (Lower all your stats)

That way it is only added danger if you are unlucky with level, or happen to be something really bad, like 50.

I'd rather have both, I've played games that have both (mmo and non mmo). And this isn't one of them.
