That's a point. In fact there were several versions of electric lights invented before Edison's team; the main thing Edison accomplished was developing the technology to easily manufacture electric lights. (He was also an unscrupulous, credit-stealing jerk, but that's a secondary matter.) And the biggest recent gains in gaming haven't been on PCs and consoles anyway. Everyone say hello to their mobile device overlords. Regardless, PC gaming has seen a fair bit of a resurgence the last several years and i suspect part of that relates to backwards compatibility. PCs by default have it and can be backwards compatible with games that were never released on a PC in the first place, the horror!
