A lot of people are looking towards 1.18 for Yoshida to really prove himself capable of producing this game to the standards the people playing it want. Tanaka did not completely blow it, and do you know why? Because this game is still here. People are still playing it or interested in continuing to play it due to two things: 1) For the good in the game that was already there and 2) For the potential good coming in the future for the game. All in all, the game will always be a part of both producers, failure or success and it wouldn't be here at all without Tanaka originally.
Not really sure where the borderline trolling thing comes from, but whatever. Tanaka did blow it, saying 'the game's still here' as a reason is pretty crazy, considering if it wasn't run by a company with as much income to support it as Square Enix it probably would've sunk within 2-3 months. 15-30,000 subs cannot pay back the huge investment this game has eaten up, probably can't even cover the costs of running it. Considering they're having to give people subscription-less time just to keep that many people playing suggests it's a pretty big failure, I'm afraid.

As for 1.18, yes people are interested in the outcome but it's the *first patch in a series of big changes*, this cannot be stated enough.

Anyways I'm pretty much done now, this is a no-win scenario and I genuinely think we're on such different wavelengths about it that it's unlikely we'll agree.
