I would like a definitive answer honestly. I was fishing the sylphlands for velodyna carp and other misc fish for my last level V fishing achievement when all of the fish in the ENTIRE SYLPHLANDS sudden sensed something amiss for over an hour. Did this happen to anyone else?

I should've tried fishing in a different hole, like maybe Silver Bazaar for hammerheads, just to see if it was a global fishing cap or not...
I want to bring up this question again, any input on the certain number on "hard cap" or lockout "reset time" would be nice.

I do not understand what you're talking until I met the problem myself today. I can't fish in the whole slyphlands fishing hole zone after catching several hundreds fish, I didn't remember the number since I've been working on luminary achievement these few days at the same area. I did try another fishing hole on the same map, it's still available, not locked out.

I re-log when they sense something is amiss and always seem to be able to fish again.

This is something different from what most people here are describing. The simplest fix is to find another fishing spot and make one cast there. For instance, while fishing for the Titanic Sawfish, you should run to the pond in the cave just to the east of Cape Westwind (the one with all of the giants) and perform a single cast there. That'll take care of the "amiss" message.

The worst of it, though, is that the message appears to be *exclusively* time-based for some reason. For instance, last night I performed one cast at a location, and my DF invite popped up immediately after. So I switched jobs and went off to run the instance I'd signed up for. When the instance was finished, I switched back to Fisher, and made another cast... but was informed that the fish sensed something was amiss..

I'm having the same issue as the OP, I was fishing the sawfish all day yesterday during the proper conditions and then last night I got the message that the fish sensed something amiss... it didn't matter where I moved it said the same thing. So I went to bed, and almost 12 hours later I went back to try again and the entire zone tells me that the fish sense something is amiss...

This seems like a bug to me, i re-logged, re-zoned, didn't fish for 12 hours, now all of Western Thanalan is off limits for fishing.

So here's my experience with the whole thing:

Yesterday i started to fish for the Silver Sovereign to get me the new Fishing Rod.

I fished a whole hour (6am to 6am) without any luck. Went to the internet and did some research. Many people believe that the best time to catch it is between 6am to 10am. While already starting at 6pm is a good idea since from that point on you can only catch Silver Sovereign if you land a Big Catch while at 10am the Mahi-Mahi starts to jump in and you rarely catch any more Silver Sovereign until 6pm.

So what i did then was waiting for around 10pm and then go back to the spot. In the meantime i crafted, did Dungeons, helped FC members - whatever. 10pm hits, i port to Moraby Drydocks, go to the Fishing spot for the Silver Sovereign, eat a Landtrap Salad and fish there from 10pm to 10am until Food runs out.

I do that for like 3 times? 4 times? All in all i've probably fished for 2h to 3h in total only in that spot on that RL-Day. And when i come back the next time it tells me:
"The fish sense something amiss. Perhaps it is time to try another location."
    So i move a bit: Dosn't help.
I'm porting to another area and come back: Dosn't help.
I take a break like one hour, do some crafting, come back: Dosn't help.

Then it was 0am, me tired, so i decide to go to bed. I was on Goldsmith, had done some Rose Gold Nuggets crafting in our FC house. So i'm like: "Yeah, probably something like a Fatigue-System. Maybe it'll be gone after some hours not InGame."

I went to bed, had a good nights sleep, came back online around 9h later. It was 6pm InGame, i was like: "Yay, perfect timing." I take care of my Retainers, still on Goldsmith, and then port to Moraby Drydocks ride to the spot, try to fish...
"The fish sense something amiss. Perhaps it is time to try another location."

Yeah, Great... so after someone suggested to just go to a different fishing spot and do at least 1 cast there i was going to try this. Back to the Moraby Drydocks port - that was the closest different fishing spot on my map - down to the docks and happy fishing.

I catch myself a Ocean Cloud - 1 cast successfully done! I quit the fishing, back to the Silver Sovereign spot, try to cast and... Yay, it works! I can happy fish again!

So for this case the 1-cast-trick seems to work fine.

So what i do now is: After i ported to Moraby Drydocks i cast my line into the waters at the docks, catch one fish, then go to the Silver Sovereign spot, fish there from 10pm to 10am, quit, come back at 10pm and repeat the rotation. =)

    Happy fishing everyone!

no one can answer the OP's question. I just came across this problem, and if people read the original question they would understand that you can't move 10 or so m's away. The spot becomes entirely unfishable and we don't know how long for it to pass before we can resume fishing. I'm starting my timer now. Tell ya when I get back.

I have never seen the entire area amiss. ive been fishin quite a few moons as well. not the spot the area.. this seems like a bug. i usually move to a new area a within the same map and catch a few fish and your good to go back. i would bring it up to a GM never heard of it.. going back to the same spot without going somewheres else first weather you think its hours or you been in DF or whatever you will always get amiss or at least thats what i have experienced.. you have to move and fish to reset it...

Could be longer. When I fish silver sovereign after few hours, I logged out and went to bed. Next day I log and tried to fish, I immediately for fish being suspicious. Even after fishing very few attempts and entering DF does make fish suspicious when you exit DF.

Just go to other different fishing spot and fish 1 time, then return to your original spot. You should be able to resume fishing again.

Did you actually read the thread? It was answered already at least 3 times here. Once you get the whole area unfishable you need to move to different area (different name, not just different "location"), cast at least once (you can cancel the cast afterwards, no need to catch anything) and that resets the timer for the first location so you can go back and fish for another fixed period of time. As far as I know this timer will not reset itself unless you perform the cast elsewhere.
