    Well just for information sake, they removed all Elites since then, as TBC was numerous expansions ago. I don't remember when, but at least as of Cata, open world Elites no longer exist.

    Well, assuming that began in Cata, you had 5 years of growing sub rates to peak levels, the sharpest being the Vanilla and TBC era with the old system. It wasn't a "good choice", rather "a choice", and seeing as a lot of the choices Blizz made post-cata didn't sustain their subs for much longer (in fact starting a huge 7m decline in subs), it would seem that it's not a great indicator of what a good MMO makes. One should look at what they did when they were rapidly gaining subscribers, not when they plateaued and began losing them.

    The best choices Blizzard did when designing their MMO was done when WoW was first launched, and improved on in TBC. The groundwork was built, and people got hooked. However, Blizz had failed to keep making those good choices, and have suffered since.
