Did you know, when you enter contracts with other companies you can't just out right drop them or anything like that? It takes quite awhile when it's business to business, it's not like you cancelling your phone service and paying $20-$500. Especially in this kind of field, there's a lot of factors than calling up someone and moving to something new. It would take months or more depending on the contract, since ARR is barely 1 year old.

I'm sure I'll get some snotty eye rolling cloying crap in response to the above paragraph too.
Probably due to all the name calling you just laid out.

Like there is some hypothetical benefit analysis where Square Enix could actually change things, if anyone routed through Level3.net couldn't play the game at all obviously Square Enix would find a CDN that didn't route through level3 or something like that, correct? It reminds me a lot of when I worked regularly at an e-commerce site, very often things wouldn't get shipped and it wasn't our fault at all, it was the supplier's fault. However in the end customer's didn't care and we couldn't just shrug and blame the supplier because people weren't getting products they paid us for. We were responsible because we make a commitment to provide something.
SE doesn't have a contract with Level3.net. They have a contract with their CDN, who in turn, has a contract with Level3. The levels of griping can only go one level down or up, reliably. Let's say SE is aware of the situation regarding Level.net nodes (they probably do). They go do their CDN and say there is an issue. The CDN will not drop Level3 as it's primary connection to various ISPs because they cannot break million-dollar contracts. The buck stops there. SE dropping their CDN would not only also cost them millions of dollars, it would take down NA servers until they are able to establish a new CDN service provider. Also, those contracts more than likely prevent them from actually naming any company as the primary cause of the issue, or risk breaking it. I'd rather have some service than no service. Many ISPs pass through Level3 to get to the CDN, so it isn't exactly something you can just fix, aside from creating a VPN.

Certainly we understand (now) that SE isn't directly to blame, but they still are the ones providing this service and are the ones who owe us good service, we're paying them. We're not paying level3, if level3 isn't reliable naturally we have every right to expect SE to at least consider or put into the motion whatever things change them from using that service.
Because people making complaints about something they don't understand without doing any research as a kneejerk reaction to something they don't like is completely asinine. In any situation. Ever. The situation sucks, yes. No reason to make it suck more.

In the age of the internet, you can easily look up all of these things within a minute and have a rudimentary understanding of what is happening. Besides, you don't seem to be reading anything else I've said. This has happened before. People have tried. There is nothing that can be done on SE's side, next to nothing that can be done on your ISP's side. It comes down to Level3, who is a horrible company to work with, and do not take responsibility for their service. There are also next to no other options for service that a CDN or an ISP can do to change this.

The difference from your examples, and what is happening here, is that your complaints are public, and people will read them and stupidly follow without understanding the issue. When you file a complaint with a company, it's normally done on a private level, sans that screaming guy at Target. Don't be the screaming guy at Target. Nobody likes him.

I'm reading the information you posted was really helpful, I read it. I just don't understand how someone with such a good understanding of the issue doesn't know why people who might have never had these kind of issues over multiple MMOs would come to a forum and complain.

My public complaint is with you(well not you directly, your service is fine, it's just the attitude that needs work), not SE. Last time I had these issues the VPN fixed it and I'll probably do that again if they get worse. This is honestly a thread that is working fine(discounting all the sneering going on), people have connectivity issues, a little "me too" goes on, then the problem is explained in detail, and people move on with their lives. You'll probably keep seeing these threads every patch too until you can get level3sux.org to be the top search result for 'ffxiv connectivity issues' and even then people are naturally going to go with the "me too" approach to diagnosing their issue.

With some of the replies in this thread it just feels like I'm reading 4chan posts or something. >expecting your internet service to be good in america

I'm probably biased, because a few other members and I were testing/researching this heavily a few months ago. Unfortunately, those threads are now lost from being too old, but it's frustrating to see history repeating itself and people making posts without rational titles or explanations in the OP/subsequent posts.

I get that. The issue is people making conclusions when they shouldn't be. I mean, it's one thing to say, as an OP, that there is currently lag, when using FiOS (no "please fix", no "no other MMO", etc) in the Technical Support Boards. Then, you would be able to come to a logical conclusion about what the problem is, and the steps to take. The OP here, made the conclusion that it was SE, definitively, without looking at the whole scenario. That is what I mean by not helping anyone, or making it worse.

In the year 2014 wouldn't half the population know that America's Internet infrastructure is just awful. Nope I guess not. Charging 60 dollars for 2mb of speed. While in Japan they pay 60 for like 200mb. I am exaggerating the Japan price but 50mb of speed is around 40 bucks

In the year 2014 all of the internet knew that "LOL" means "laugh out loud" & knew not to take what follows too seriously.

in 2014 wouldn't half the population know that bandwidth size is no indication of speed or connection quality.

Yes, the routing is not at SE's servers, but SE were the ones that decided to put only a few concentrated servers in a handful of countries. I do not experience this poor quality of connection with any other online game I play.

The lag continues as server populations swell. Two weeks of unbearable coil fails have rendered attempting coil a downright waste of time. SE, this is your game, I'm a paying customer, please look into this issue soon. Otherwise, there's no point in paying for a game I can't even play due to such a ridiculous reason like lag.
