Fixed. If it was 100% on SE you would hear of absolutely no one having a smooth gameplay experience ever in the past year.

German players don´t have it much better currently. I´m from Excalibur and the lag today is just hilarious. It makes me sad that SE did not learn from the previous major patches. Also I found out it´s not our connection that cause the problems. The server just runs shitty.

Also having issues with a bottleneck going past Level3 over towards the North American data center. It's bad enough that trying to play in Syrcus Tower was an absolute nightmare and not the extremely enjoyable experience it could have been. Of course, this issue will resolve itself within a week or two once the masses begin to get bored again.

    This. Do your research people.

Very basic money trail: SE -> CDN (Content Delivery Network) -> Level3.net -> ISP -> you

Level3.net has been notoriously shitty at routing content to servers, and on patch day, when more players than usual will be on, they were bound to screw up again. There's really not much you can do, it becomes a finger-pointing match between the CDN, the ISP, and Level3. This has happened before, months ago. It sucks, and I'm affected by it as well, but don't point the blame at something it isn't. Level3 is a terrible company to work with, and never take credit for their problems, even with the proof right in front of them. SE doesn't pay them, it's between your ISP (Verizon) and the CDN (the company SE pays to work with their servers).

Well I've been having this issue and I as well am going through Level3.net

edit: Having someone say "Do your research" in response to a tech support issue is kind of ridiculous though. Naturally people are going to assume the simplest solution and post to the forums.

I'm on Fios and it waspretty bad last night and this morning. I hope it's fixed soon. 90k every 30 mins and 20 sec lag spikes are not cool for content.

    LOL at this...

Yeah SE! Fix America's ISP's & internet connections! While you're at it, settle this net neutrality issue once & for all.

Yep the stupid Fios Lag from the east coast that we had after 2.1 is back. This really needs to end I shouldn't have to use a VPN to play the game on a connection this good.

I mean ultimately they do pay the CDN right? Like there is some hypothetical benefit analysis where Square Enix could actually change things, if anyone routed through Level3.net couldn't play the game at all obviously Square Enix would find a CDN that didn't route through level3 or something like that, correct? It reminds me a lot of when I worked regularly at an e-commerce site, very often things wouldn't get shipped and it wasn't our fault at all, it was the supplier's fault. However in the end customer's didn't care and we couldn't just shrug and blame the supplier because people weren't getting products they paid us for. We were responsible because we make a commitment to provide something.

I think people are fine being told they don't have something quite right but I don't really see why everyone has to act like such snots about someone not knowing something. Further people are being snotty about what amounts to blame shifting. Certainly we understand (now) that SE isn't directly to blame, but they still are the ones providing this service and are the ones who owe us good service, we're paying them. We're not paying level3, if level3 isn't reliable naturally we have every right to expect SE to at least consider or put into the motion whatever things change them from using that service.

EDIT: I mean I don't quite understand it but Netflix recently had issues that were ultimately the ISP's faults. However they didn't shirk their responsibility. I realize SE doesn't have that clout, but these posts that amount to "it's literally impossible to fix shut up and deal with it" read like sycophantic drivel.
