Eh... depends. Most of the time, yes, but there are certain things that can only be done with a designated jump button. Plus let's not forget that adding climbing would probably be far more complicated to implement and take longer to program than a simple jump button.

There's no other reason to demand the ability to jump with such insistence than to be able to abuse it.
