Well, there was that snippet about intercrossing being changed some. Maybe glazenuts and broombrushes are going to easier to cultivate now.

Am I reading it correctly that there are also a few new minions that seem to require gardening to get? That's what it seems like anyway. So my FC with a small plot must use our single 8 slot garden to get Glazenuts for brooms, multiple different types of chocobo feed depending on what people want, various materials for new/old crafts, as well as seeds for minions and then whatever other things anyone might want to grow.
Hm... seems crowded. At this rate I hope they intend either to let us have a miniature garden in our rooms or for personal housing to be incredibly accessible, because it seems like a lot of things to lock behind something so limited to the majority of the playerbase.
Chocobo raising confirmed out of reach for the average player
I am seriously hoping there will be some changes in 2.35 or 2.4 to make this happen. Even with "Intercrossing" being changed (hopefully for the better) I still cant see a single 8-slot garden being enough for anyone but one person. I already yielded the gardening slots to my hubby since he crafts more than I do but I still want to use gardening more too.

well it seems that the seeds for the cheapest and most basic food are vender sold, I'm guessing however that means that the seeds for all the other food, including the Thav. onion of cap raising, will require crossbreeding, most likely several generations. So... yeah this is going to be expensive, and take a few weeks at best for the advanced foods to even come into existence. All so you can make a Chocobo that can't be used in any truly difficult encounter a bit tougher.
Yet I'm going to do it anyway, because you know, they giant yellow featherballs (that's a word right?) that say wark (or is it Kweh?) and look at me with those sad puppy dog eyes. (OK those blank stare chocobo eyes, but close enough)

I'm glad not everything will be available in the first 24 hours or perhaps even in the first 2 months. I like to work towards something and not have it just given to me.
I'm in a tiny 7 person FC with one garden and we are excited to be planning what to plant and working together gathering all the materials for things. We have already teamed up with another small FC for glaze nut gardening.

...except I'm pretty sure the true Hardcore Elites don't care about their little birds levels....they have better things to do than grind mobs etc....
Furthermore, at least on my server, 90% of the 'hardcore elite' FC's garden plots are barren most of the time....(or growing something exceptionally lame/hipster).
Meanwhile, all the JUTE/GLAZENUTS/BROOMBOOSH I was able to grow this patch, most of it was purchased by the same 2-3 crafters.....and the items it made, purchased often by said hardcores.
Hardcore raiders take the 'Ain't nobody got time for that!' Approach to Chocobos.... they will either:
1. Pay for the food
2. Not raise their birds
And keep in mind, most people do not yet have a level 10 bird. So most people aren't directly affected quite yet. And the challenge Log chocobo exp is quite good+ stabling them = not exping with them in the field. So until we know how much exp they get from being stabled vs. leveling out in the field this is a bit of a wash atm.
I DO agree that making gardening=the sole way you get the goods unwise...but then again, everyone with access to a chocobo stable also has access to a garden. It is up to the individual FC's to make sure their folk are taken care of. (If you are in a FC that doesn't take care of you then why are you in it?) Although, someone with a level 4 bird in my FC would probably have less 'need' of the gardening items than someone who's already put in the time with their bird and is rank 10. (meaning, I'd feed the 10 mats first....and when the rank 4 was higher up....or when we had a surplus of mats, I'd send them some).
Lastly, My level 9 chocobo does the job. He's great. He tanks for me, and dd's and I keep him alive and we rock it. Open-world we rule. Heck, we duo Peisteskin maps all the time. I was never in a big hurry to rank him to 10 because he was 'tough enough' for my needs....no one needs a level 20 bird. While yes, down the road there might be specific content that makes a level 20 bird an asset, right now....and for the foreseable future, just hitting rank 10 is a milestone for most members of the community. 20 is a LOOOOOONG way away....with or without the veggies.
But if all the FC's grew items that could be growing....in all their plots, this would be a non issue. At least on my server (seriously, very few FC's have anything growing in their gardens)
The bigger delay will be: It could take 2-4weeks before the cross-breeding for the correct seeds/veggies is known. And then another 4-6weeks before enough people grow said items to start supplying the masses.

When I got my artisan tools for both CRP & WVR, that's when I realized the importance and quite frankly, the difficulty of maintaining those. Can't even make those 2.2 crafted minions without forking hundred ks of gils for the mats, or spending alot of quality time intercrossing your plants.
Gardening seriously need at least 1 dedicated player doing it, maybe 2 since you can't really online all 24 hours a day. ^^;
I just hope the requirements for chocobo breeding would be eased up from gardening. ^^;

I'm guessing when breeding comes out it'll require genetically engineer nuts, requiring 4 years of grad school, 8 years of post grad school, and 25 years of research to learn how to do. Then you have to make the gene splicing equipment...

i was kind of hoping that at least some of that chocobo food was being sold from vendors, now all my fc will farm those seeds like mad and i wont be able to get any...
