Bit OOT here, I haven't spending gardening in XI much time. Only tried few times and resulting some garbage stuff that I npc most of them. I wonder if Mog garden there has intercrossing feature too, since if I recall that it only has like 3 garden patch to plant stuff.

Am I reading it correctly that there are also a few new minions that seem to require gardening to get? That's what it seems like anyway. So my FC with a small plot must use our single 8 slot garden to get Glazenuts for brooms, multiple different types of chocobo feed depending on what people want, various materials for new/old crafts, as well as seeds for minions and then whatever other things anyone might want to grow.
Hm... seems crowded. At this rate I hope they intend either to let us have a miniature garden in our rooms or for personal housing to be incredibly accessible, because it seems like a lot of things to lock behind something so limited to the majority of the playerbase.
Chocobo raising confirmed out of reach for the average player

well it seems that the seeds for the cheapest and most basic food are vender sold, I'm guessing however that means that the seeds for all the other food, including the Thav. onion of cap raising, will require crossbreeding, most likely several generations. So... yeah this is going to be expensive, and take a few weeks at best for the advanced foods to even come into existence. All so you can make a Chocobo that can't be used in any truly difficult encounter a bit tougher.
Yet I'm going to do it anyway, because you know, they giant yellow featherballs (that's a word right?) that say wark (or is it Kweh?) and look at me with those sad puppy dog eyes. (OK those blank stare chocobo eyes, but close enough)

I'm glad not everything will be available in the first 24 hours or perhaps even in the first 2 months. I like to work towards something and not have it just given to me.
I'm in a tiny 7 person FC with one garden and we are excited to be planning what to plant and working together gathering all the materials for things. We have already teamed up with another small FC for glaze nut gardening.

When I got my artisan tools for both CRP & WVR, that's when I realized the importance and quite frankly, the difficulty of maintaining those. Can't even make those 2.2 crafted minions without forking hundred ks of gils for the mats, or spending alot of quality time intercrossing your plants.
Gardening seriously need at least 1 dedicated player doing it, maybe 2 since you can't really online all 24 hours a day. ^^;
I just hope the requirements for chocobo breeding would be eased up from gardening. ^^;

I'm guessing when breeding comes out it'll require genetically engineer nuts, requiring 4 years of grad school, 8 years of post grad school, and 25 years of research to learn how to do. Then you have to make the gene splicing equipment...

i was kind of hoping that at least some of that chocobo food was being sold from vendors, now all my fc will farm those seeds like mad and i wont be able to get any...

I have been the only gardener in my FC to date.
I have provided anyone in my FC who requested them with glaze, jute and broom for the cost of soil and seeds...
I am very concerned... I certainly hope that the food yields high amounts (24 fruit from a single tree?) because this is going to complete suck for FCs with 200 chocobos in the stable and 1 garden of which to get greens from.
In the event we can simply gather the seeds - its actually ok regardless of the numbers above.
If these seeds are cross breed only ... then that means it will be at least 9 days till anyone, on any server can raise a chocobo in the stables. (unless your retainer brings you a seed from the RNG god)

FC has like 64 people 1 garden for 64 peoples chocobos. Some people have a FC with over 100 people. Not being able to do this personally with a large FC is somewhat of a problem.
