Crystal Tools can't even render water, how do you expect to go swimming. Have you seen Limsa Lominsa?

I know that this goes against some of my other views on having this game be more real. That being said, I want to be able to swim. I don't know how I feel about fighting while swimming underwater though, have to think about that one.
That's my issue.
I have no problem with adding a swim feature. It's the underwater combat I don't think I want. I have never found a game that did it well. Although I didn't mind how DDO handled the underwater combat physics... you start out moving slow and as you build momentum you can move faster.
Well. I will say this. Considering Yoshi-P has suggested Black Shroud will be redone, that throws a few points in swimming's favor. But I do have to say... I don't think I've seen anything on Crystal tools that actually does do much in water. There's very few actual bits of water you can really dip your camera into in XIV, which usually suggests it's a ground texture. I've got an obsession with dipping my camera in water whenever I can. So the real question is can the engine even handle it? Most likely. But still.

I agree with the above poster. Underwater combat in Oblivion was depressing. It's just really hard to execute water combat in an efficient way. Plus some weapons are more suited for it than others.
I think a lot of the disdain for water content stems from how stupid water combat usually looks. Plus humans are just not good at aquatic combat.

They don't have to add underwater combat.... unless they figure out a way to do it right. It could be just feature like jumping that would add another dimension to the game ... It would also give more option to the level designers, like someone mentioned before it would be cool to have to swim down a lake to reach a secret cave/dungeon or something...Well. I will say this. There is many applications to swimming that dont involve combat.
The issue you run into then is how to handle monsters who have aggro'd. Does water become a safe zone where the mobs can't enter? Or do they chase you into the water? If they chase, they then have to add a "swimming" animation for every mob in the game that could possibly enter water. And if it's a safe zone, it could possibly be exploited. They don't have to add underwater combat.... unless they figure out a way to do it right. These are the types of questions you have to ask any time you add a new mechanic to the game... even things as simple as swimming and jumping.
Not to mention if it's a safe zone, then WTF Crabs and Anglers?
I can't imagine how can FF go underwater... but it's interesting.
X did. But only 3 or the 7 characters. And even when they were under water, the controls were still in 180 degree movement, not 360. You moved in a linear path. If you were supposed to go up or down, you automatically did it.
That'd be awesome.
