I work for a nice gas station so I can give exact numbers on this.


Odds of winning the jackpot on the powerball 1:175,223,510

That's for winning the jackpot.

So say guy A is 55 years old, has been playing for 30 years. 2 chances a week to win.

That's 53 weeks a year, that's 106 chances per year. 3180(ish) chances to win. Hasn't one once. Maybe 50-100 here and there, but nothing big (aka other drops that you get over and over) oh and this is if he only buys 2 tickets a week, once for each drawing.

Guy B. 20 year old. Just decided to take a Crack at it a few times. Say he played 20 times, and wins.

You know what? Too bad. So sad. What's the 55 year old guy gonna do? Keep playing, hoping one day hell win big.

Except this is a game, we are a different generation of people, and if we don't like something usually petitioning will get it changed. I mean I could be sitting on a high chair yelling at all the people using echo to get gear/clears "to get gud" but nope. They pay for the game, they should be able to clear content and receive items. Even if it isn't an immediate change an eventual change would suffice.

Since you like the lottery so much, and enjoy the concept of a reward being gated behind nearly impossible odds, why don't you quit playing this game and play the lottery full time instead? It sounds like a game that is more geared toward your personal taste.

I do play the lottery on occasion not 106 times a year, but that's fine. Just like I play against rng. But unlike op and a large group of others, I don't cry and post to the forums about it when I lose. Lol. I just try again.

Except this is a role playing game, where RNG has been a cornerstone of the genre since its inception. Instead of playing Hello Kitty Online where we get stuff for logging in, we choose to come complain on an RPG forum. We also like to go to the FPS forums and complain about crosshairs and headshots dealing too much damage. Isn't it a bit hypocritical to make sweeping generalizations about other people being entitled children when you're acting like one yourself? How do you equate RNG to "too hard" for some people? How does that in any way make sense? What exactly is challenging about getting lucky? Please explain it to me so that I can understand. Also, I hate to break it to you, but we aren't all equal in real life either. This is a game and is intended to be an escape from real life. Why bring over one of the negative aspects of the real world? Why do you care if other people are equal to you? Why do you need to feel superior to others by dangling a carrot in front of them that you yourself didn't even truly "earn"? Why is your happiness considered more important than that of others? Is this you?

He has a valid point, the only difference is that he has the courage to say out what the rest of us think in our hearts and doesn't give a flying hoot about what others perceive about him, a good skill many of us should learn. Maybe you shouldn't get a job then, because your successful application means that someone out there has a failed application. So are you that altruistic? Get over it.

Speak for yourself. I for one do not wish failure upon anyone, and believe that it would be a negative character trait to do so. The quote itself is incredibly narcissistic, conceited, and a prime example of egoism.

No, actually it's the opposite. People could theoretically (no matter how unlikely) get all five, now six, mounts in their very first attempt. Is that a grind to you? No, it's being rewarded just because the game decides so, no grind whatsoever. No one is asking for the mounts to be given up for nothing, it would just be nice to have an alternative to RNG. Whether you believe in good and bad luck or not, the fact is some people do just have flat out bad luck. We keep talking about the low drop rate but in theory someone could see the mount twenty, thirty times in a row, and still lose every time. That's just the cruel nature of RNG.

People keep talking about how rewards should be rare, but this is just a game. I'm not asking for a Purple Heart or an Academy Award here, I'm asking for an alternative method to obtain something which would make me enjoy the game more. As for those who are so vehemently against it, I can't think of many honest reasons why other than spite.

It doesn't matter what people could theoretically get or not get. I could theoretically win the lotto. Am I going to go bitch about that and say everybody should win the lotto? No, because you are buying into that much like you are buying into this game and the methods of reward.

And there are several mounts with an alternative to RNG, are they fun? NO! CNJ gets a mount from class quests. PLD and WAR get mounts from grinding 200 instances and that is definitely not fun, that I can guarantee from experience.

And you say again in "theory" someone could see it X amount of times. There are a lot of things that could or could not happen when things are random, that's why it's random. If someone has bad luck, tough. Not everything in the game is given by RNG and if you don't like RNG, get those other things. There are so many unicorns in this game already, are they really worth that much to you? I would love to have them, especially considering the mythology behind them, I did post in another thread about this (can be found here for anyone interested)

And just because you can't think of any other reasons other than spite as a reason to reward this in a method other than RNG, doesn't mean others can't. Sure, most of the time if you ask someone "Why?" I would assume they would most likely give an answer something along the lines of "'cause I said so!".

Either way, you don't have to get these mounts, they aren't the only mounts in the game, and other mounts are obtainable through non-RNG methods. If you want the ones that are obtained through RNG, that's tough.

The game is fine as is and then we are getting threads like yours. Just because the game isn't going the way you want it to, doesn't call for change.
