Well indeed there are a lot of new releases these days and how things get replaces are getting faster and faster, but price point versus performance is something more and more people are going to look at. Just like Titan Black and Titan Z. High benchmark scores, but when you look at the price and do the math about performance/bucks... you know the answer

Things like R9 290 are gems that happened once in a while imo

Okay I swear now you're purposely tempting me to upgrade or crossfire. Need....to.... control....

What kind of problems are you having? I would first try to roll back my drivers if you havent. The GeForce drivers was causing the game to black out for 2-5 seconds for me till I took them back. That card should be good enough to run at full. If the drivers roll back doesn't work check your ram. Remove all but one then swap them out. It could even.be your psu that's causing the problems. I want to but refuse to waste money on anything new till the dx11 version comes out and who knows when that's going to be :-(.

Since it is about 7870, may I ask some question here.

I also using 7870, I can set graphic to maximum and run 60 fps just fine in dungoen.
But when in crowd or in open map, fps drop to 20-40 fps.

Just change to SSD recently, it helps to load map in open map smoothly but still not improve fps.

    My spec is

    CPU : FX4100
    VGA : HD7870
    Ram : 4GB DDR
    SSD : Samsung 840 Pro 128 GB
PS, I am using 40" LED TV as a monitor, not sure if it is effect on performance of VGA.

I am guessing I should upgrade CPU, will it help ?

LOL I'm tempted to crossfire myself since I am running on 3 monitors, 1x 1440p and 2x 1080p. Single 290 seems sufficient for now but might want some future buffer in case I drop the 2 1080p for the same model of 1440p and do some eyefinity

Too bad FFXIV doesn't support crossfire/SLI as of now.

Yeap, FFXIV uses a fair bit of CPU performace, your current CPU based on Passmark scores is lower than the first generation i7 intel processor, so you might want to upgrade them.

8GB of RAM might be good too.

The size of your monitor doesn't matter. 40" 1080p makes no difference from 24'' 1080p

I'm using 2 7950's with 3 1080p monitors for FF14 and I can tell you I get 100% usage for both cards and much higher performance when I enable crossfire.

I'm using GTX 660 and can run the game 1080p, the CPU is more the bottleneck here, but changing it requires a new motherboard as well.

You can try overclocking that CPU if you haven't yet. All the AMD FX CPUs are unlocked. 4.5Ghz would be good.
The 8320 would be a good upgrade though as FFXIV will use all 8 Cores
