You realize you're linking to artwork from YOSHITAKA AMANO when the designer for XIV was AKIHIKO YOSHIDA, right? Amano just did a few illustrations promoting the game, he was hardly related to the project.

Can you please stop referencing concept art and use actual photographs or screenshots? The artwork you keep posting are mere exaggerations of the things that they actually represent.

If you say so but it doesn't really help your point.

Personally I like the color scheme in FFXIV, but then again I have always been a more earth-tone girl. I agree that maybe it could do with a bit more color, in the form of plants and such.

But not everyone is going to like the style or coloring of FFXIV, that is a simple fact that can not be disputed. Games are art, and art is in the eye of the beholder... it's like saying

'Well it's a Picasso, everyone HAS to love Picasso. He's famous!'

    But not everyone likes Picasso.

So not everyone has to like FFXIV's color theme.

But lets see where they take it, they are adding in dungeons, beastmen areas, more camps etc... maybe that will add something to it.

I like everywhere but the cities in terms of color. The landscapes are reasonably varied but then you get to the city and it's all 2/3 muted colors (green, brown, gray).

Totally agree. And I also agree that this game uses a lot of earthy-tones. What I think a few people fail to realize is that the world is supposed to be organic. You look at armor, cloth, tools, etc., and notice that they all have a hand-made, rugged feel to them. You can see the fibers in cloth, the ruggedness of metal, tools, etc. The color palate is a little on the neutral side, but helps reflect the organic look effectively.

    Organic blue
    Organic red
    A bunch of organic colors.
    Painting made with organic paint/dye.
    Moar organically dyed fiber

    EDIT: Eye blazing natural dyes.

The game has plenty of color. The last thing it needs is cartoony bright colors like WoW (... and Tera).

No, the game doesn't look great. The colors are all pale and muted, making the game look drab. The spells have a better palette somewhat, but they're all still white, gray, and brown mixed in with element color of the spell in a heterogeneous blob. Combat animations are equally boring.

People are asking for better visuals because eye candy is ALWAYS good and lack of eye candy makes a game dull. And because ultra realistic color palette that only has brown, gray, and muted green in it is not Final Fantasy at all.

But I guess you're one of those people who poopoos ideas before you even look into them a little deeper. Not to worry though, I made you an easy to follow flowchart that will get you going on what it means to analyze ideas.
