Here's the thing, when you switch to Fists of Earth and gain a damage reduction you lose your increased ability to deal damage with Fists of Fire. The end result is you take less damage but the mob you're fighting takes longer to kill which generally results in you being at a similar level of health when you kill your target anyway.
While both stances have their uses there's really little point in using Fists of Earth solo unless you're fighting multiple opponents.
Just switch between the 2 stances. To be fair, I was talking about enemy auto attack damage. Any high damage attack I'd just step out of the range of rather than stance dance.
