Main problem with Atma is that it's not quantifiable progression. I'm all for making something a "grind", in the spirit of making someone "earn" it, but we shouldn't be at the mercy of RNG.

Having something to look forward to helps ease despair, because I know many people who don't have an end-game FC or can't get access to sands or oils; so ATMA is their only option. Right now, for the so called "casuals" that SE is pandering to, they are locked out of end-game progression. I think that a small change could be to give a player a buff (lets say a 10 minute, stackable buff) that they get each time they complete a fate, and it's specific for that zone.. Each stack of the buff increases the drop rate of atma by a minuscule amount, lets say around ~1%. This way, even if it takes 100~ FATEs, players know in the back of their heads that it'll take AT MOST ~100 fates.

    This, 100 times this.

If only I had some way to gauge progress, it wouldn't be so unbearable. In all honesty, leveling Chocobo companions is just as bad, if not worse than atma grinding. But there's a level gauge showing you what level he is, and how much you've accomplished. With atma, you can farm for hours and feel like it was all wasted, because there is no sense of progression if you don't receive an atma piece.
