You forgot third option. Not knowing about the mechanic! That's how I got oneshotted by the bombs and haven't gotten them again so far.

I really like the maps, Finally something that is somewhat challenging. I'm always a little nervous before starting a map cause I know I must do my best otherwise I might lose it. And losing it suuucks!

Did you assume that a Map, which is equal to 800 myth, would be as easy as a normal map?

I was lucky so far and won all. All the way DRG and getting used to them. The bombs is something i did encounter 2 days ago for second time and they are HP based it seems. as soon as they appeard i killed them asap and they did not blow up at all.

But yeah.. i love those maps.

I really like these maps too. Designed to be challenging to normal solo players with animus and some expectation of gear level. (I know some still don't consider them challenging, but not sure I count them as normal)
Not knowing the mechanics is normal and when you see new mobs spawn mid-fight you have the option of taking them on immediately because you don't know what they may do, or wait and see...

There is one thing I'm uncertain about regarding these bomb adds; I've heard that each bomb only deals a certain amount of damage, and it's only if all of them explode at once that you risk death... can anyone confirm?

Its not one shot but it is definitely not dps and healer friendly. I've gotten that fight and as a war with dps accessories the first wave knocked me back to about 30% hp with fortify and ToB up. The next wave I had to Holmgang because I knew I wasn't going to survive that wave. I beat it with only 1000 hp. I tried to burn the boss before the adds because I don't know if op spam with berserk and IR would kill the bombs.

I like the sense of danger with the maps but I hate the notion of materia failing on melds when infusing to scrolls.

They each deal roughly 1500 damage, so if you have under 6k hps and don't get a lucky dodge/parry in there, you are pretty much dead.

I have not had this map yet but I have had some where I was petrified or immobilized for 20 seconds. Extremely frustrating but I'm glad to see some new stuff that keeps me on my toes.

It's a part of the genre itself that will never go away, similar to how being in first-person for an FPS will never go away. The insta-kill mechanics are a bit underhanded, but that's sort of the gamble you take when doing things solo without prior knowledge. Again, this is an MMORPG, and no one should overlook the fact that there very well may be mechanics that promote group play, though solo may still be an option with great care. Especially when it's content related to obtaining an endgame item.
My Idea of an MMORPG is playing with friends/peopel i meet on the game and to have fun playing not spend my time farming X dungeon for 3 hours to get the item i need to upgrade my gear.

I really liked the old Relic quest where you had to go and defeat primal hard Mode's, it made getting the relic something of an achievement you could use. When i was levelling I would look to the level 50 Paladins in all Valor Gear and Relic Zenith and be like "I will get that weapon someday." And when i got it after a month on Titan HM (when it was almost impossible to do in DF in my experience anyway) i got it and I felt like i had accomplished something, I had defeated; Garuda, Ifrit and Titan and gathered enough Philosophy Tomes to purchase this iconic weapon.

Now with Animus/Novus anyone can get them, they just need to be able to farm 1500 myth for Animus and do a daily map and (not die ><) they have Animus/Novus.

And that had harder Grinds. Also, the Quest didn't tell you to go alone?

Im mean i'm not for oneshot mechanics, i hate them.
However every boss battle with unforgiving mechanics is no fun to me.

But your not forced to go solo for the map or anything.
If by Old Version you mean 1.0 then i wouldn't know only been playing 5 months, and if you mean XI then if I want to go experience the "Hard" quest to get Relic I would go play it and not ARR. (Was not meant to be offensive if that's what it sounds like)

Not forced but when i ask people they are all busy and with prior experience of Soloing i thought i could.

I did not assume it would be easy if I did i would have gone as my PLD and sat and tanked. I go as SCH because i have the option to let my pet heal me and buff while i DPS and i can Lustrate if shit hit the fan.

All in all some good feed back

I too like the map's and the way you can get them, you can either do a Daily or go farm 800 myth, I'm not that bothered about losing the myth as I had just accumulated that over time by helping friends and doing the dailies. What got me was the underhanded way the bombs did their attack. There was no "Skill bar" to say they was doing an attack they just sat there, I thought they buffed the boss so I went in and DoT them up (which was my mistake).

I had that one but i was as tank so i could shrug off the damage. The worst is the one with the Morbal, He will Bind you the use Bad Breath so have a stun ready or a Leeches/Esuna for the Bind then GTFO lol

Just like every other bomb enemy in existence in the series, you should assume that if you wait too long to kill them they blow up. They actually have pretty low hp and if you start attacking them when they appear, then you shouldn't even have problems. You made the option to ignore them, even fore a few seconds and it cost you the map. It's one of those things where the hint was there (the type of enemy) but due to playstyle (ignore all adds and attack the boss) you died and you blame "game design".
