Ppl need to feel the advanture, or something that can kill them in open world, here it is.
And now ........
While your idea of an MMORPG is indeed part of the fun of the genre, it's not something exclusive to the genre itself. You basically define the exact feel of enjoyment that people acquire playing any online multiplayer game. Sims Online, CoD (or any FPS online game really), Starcraft, Minecraft, Diablo II/III, etc. They're all games that supply what you're looking for. In fact, they kinda end at just that. When you go into an MMORPG, you're going into a genre that has multiple aspects about it that are unique to it (just as those other games have aspects of their own genres that are unique to them). Again, the grind is part of the genre. If you're simply looking for online generic fun and good times with people that don't involve a grind of sorts to strengthen yourself, MMORPGs may not be for you. An "MMO" in general might be up your alley, but the traditional RPG elements/aspect of it isn't.My Idea of an MMORPG is playing with friends/peopel i meet on the game and to have fun playing not spend my time farming X dungeon for 3 hours to get the item i need to upgrade my gear.
I really liked the old Relic quest where you had to go and defeat primal hard Mode's, it made getting the relic something of an achievement you could use. When i was levelling I would look to the level 50 Paladins in all Valor Gear and Relic Zenith and be like "I will get that weapon someday." And when i got it after a month on Titan HM (when it was almost impossible to do in DF in my experience anyway) i got it and I felt like i had accomplished something, I had defeated; Garuda, Ifrit and Titan and gathered enough Philosophy Tomes to purchase this iconic weapon.
Now with Animus/Novus anyone can get them, they just need to be able to farm 1500 myth for Animus and do a daily map and (not die ><) they have Animus/Novus.
I fully understand what you mean by the feel of accomplishment through your struggles, another great thing about MMORPGs, but the monotonous grind goes hand in hand with it. It just changes the way (or face) of it from time to time. That having been said though, the Relic weapons really are just, for now, an alternative. The majority of people are looking at it as a "must have" when it isn't... at all. Right now, like you pointed out, it's accessible by everyone, probably because it's intended to be. As such, they can't block it off through difficult content (that's what coil weapons are for), and thus comes the traditional MMORPG grind and RNG to fall back on. There's honestly not much you can do to make things easily accessible for everyone without making it TOO easy. It's honestly not much different than relying on random dungeon drops to give you the exact item you were looking for. You could spend months, potentially years, accumulating the necessary materials or the weapon/armor you wanted in those formats. Somehow, I highly doubt anyone would be unlucky enough to fall into that with the Atma system being as simple to access as it is.

Yet the novus upgrade path has nothing to do with fates...
Whilst the alexandrite maps are indicated as being soloable that does NOT mean they will be EASY to solo. They all CAN be soloed and none of them have unavoidable mechanics but you would be well advised to take at least one other player with you to ensure you don't waste the map. There is nothing wrong with the way these maps work, the people having problems with them have just gotten too used to solo content being easy content.

Maybe you should take someone with you? I take my wife just incase, All she does is sit there. I wait until I have 4 maps and do them all at once. Some of them are pretty crazy, I don't know how someone less than ilvl85 would be able to do it solo.

The maps are fine, if you're good you can solo them, if not it's always better to just do it with a buddy, hell just one buddy brings them down to Boarskin map difficulty level. Doesn't stop the rest of the relic quest from having no sense of adventure whatsoever.

This is how I feel about the Novus grind in a nutshell. I feel comfortable soloing them but I know that isn't for everyone. There's also Monster Hunts coming in 2.3 so maybe that'll give people an alternative if they don't like maps.Whilst the alexandrite maps are indicated as being soloable that does NOT mean they will be EASY to solo. Well, they definitely don't require 2 people but some would find it easier that way, which I respect. I do agree with ya on letting people know that they may need better gear to solo them. Perhaps putting a "*__ilvl preferred*" tag on the maps themselves would help, or something like that, just to spare people the confusion.

actually no, that the modern mmorpg, at the base the mmorpg is only something to do while chatting with friend. quest and such thing was add for add more depth to the activity... but that the point, in the modern mmorpg, the depth are not what they look for, but they try to give you something to do more and more and more and more and more. but it kill the first goal of a mmorpg... chat with people, the activity it's not the purpose of the game. The insta-kill mechanics are a bit underhanded, but that's sort of the gamble you take when doing things solo without prior knowledge. Again, this is an MMORPG, and no one should overlook the fact that there very well may be mechanics that promote group play, though solo may still be an option with great care. Especially when it's content related to obtaining an endgame item.
when was the last time you did talk with a stranger while doing this grind over and over and over and over? i think yoshida must not forget the part that talk of multiplayer, the fact to do a map at 2 is not a solution is barely enough.
the interaction with the other are reduce to nothing when you do this sort of mindless grind. it work for the asian population, because them society is ok with this. do that the case of the occidental, nope. they really need to rethink the content for add it replayability and fun! while still maintaining interaction with people.
