This I can agree with. I just hope there is someone at SE who has a vision. Producers rarely have that much to do with game design. There comes a point where this IS their game, their vision, their design, and their innovation or even lack thereof. While certain elements are the standard and universal among all MMO's, much of the vision for this game as outlined by Yoshi will come to fruition, and you'll either like it, or you'll go play Guild Wars 2, or Star Wars or whatever the current trending MMO happens to be at the time.
omg. I don't have an ulterior motive to bring these forums into chaos! I merely want to point out the fallacy in Yoshi's decisions as director. This direction they are taking the game is hardly toward a quality one. Unless by quality game you mean cheap imitation of something better.I never thought he was refering to bringing the game to "mmo standards", but rather bringing FFXIV up to quality.
People have been more or less content on the boards, so why do you want to go sowing dissent again? What purpose does this serve? We continue to give thoughts, opinions, and feedback, more or less in a positive manner. By now, I well imagine the team has researched every successful mmo out there (it shows in their choices). Building the future from here is all you can do. We (more or less) are trying to do that.
Since it would be pretty dumb for Yoshi-P and team to purposely try to fail, it would make a lot more sense that they are doing their best, at the quickest pace they can, without tripping over their feet.
Let's put our best foot forward, and stay positive, as they say.
I used to appreciate your posts until I realized this:
Giftforce, are you complaining about a game you haven't played? Seriously, look up Nyan Kitteh's character data.
You can agree with that? It was perhaps the worst thing someone ever said in this whole thread.
Basically he's just saying: "resume foetal position while Yoshi runs this game into the ground and then go play GW2 because even that will be better."
you forget Tera as the secound game of none target/aim and shot game :<Yoshi talks a lot about "bringing FFXIV up to standard".
I mean, isn't that the whole reason, or at least part of the reason why we are getting auto-attack and jump implemented into the game very soon? After all, such "features" are standards for many contemporary MMOs, right?
But, little does Yoshi know, the standards for upcoming or "next-gen" MMOs are set much higher than that. I fear FFXIV may barely even be able to achieve the standard set by WoW ten years ago, let alone these new MMOs that leave even WoW paling in comparison.
Around these forums there has been lots of talk about quest-hubs of late, and also quest-based progression, with a de-emphasis on grind. But do the good people at SE actually know how much work such sweeping change entails? With games like Guild Wars 2, Blade & Soul, and Star Wars:TOR being almost fully voiced, I wonder if FFXIV will
be able to live up to those standards.
...
For the record, WoW in only nearing its 7th yr in service this Nov, since I'm in the mood to be a stickler...
Still though, no I don't think XIV has a chance at ever recovering. It may become far better than it is now, but by then I'll definitely have already moved on ~ Running around the galaxy as an purely evil Twi'lek Sith Inquisitor sounds like way more fun!

it is, and they will do what they want, but as a person looking at the situation, I think the idea they had, is the game is not doing well, people are comparing it to other games, well lets hire this guy, and tell him to make it closer to those other games. There comes a point where this IS their game, their vision, their design, and their innovation or even lack thereof. While certain elements are the standard and universal among all MMO's, much of the vision for this game as outlined by Yoshi will come to fruition, and you'll either like it, or you'll go play Guild Wars 2, or Star Wars or whatever the current trending MMO happens to be at the time.
which is a bad idea on many levels.
first they are comparing them to older gen games
second this games success will hinge on tapping the ps3 market, and shoring up thier fanbase, neither of which is a strong tie in with the games they are jacking
it will take them a long time to convert this game into a clone of a game that has been out, and being developed for 8+ years.
And after that lengthy development time, you will have something that has the basic functions to appeal to the markets that are familiar with WoW EQ and ffxi, but those games already have thier markets, and just because you can appeal to them doesnt mean you can defeat/compete with them.
One thing wada was right about, is the market was ripe for a new MMO, there is a lot of new users, old users who got tired, etc, there was, and even now is, a big online gaming vaccuum if your not into WoW and got tired of FFXI the window was pretty big though, its just starting to dissappear now. If FFXIV could have established itself early it would be a for runner, but it did not, the product wasnt ready, even though the market was.
The only thing that will give this game a chance of competing with old and new MMOs is if they try to go more Final fantasy because that is thier only special card right now. Its the only thing they are talking about doing that old gen mmos dont have, and its the one thing that the new rpgs might not be able to do better than them.
"while Yoshi runs this game into the ground"
That's your perspective, not mine.
How you interpret the future based on what's been outlined is up to you. It's evident by your posts you're dissatisfied by the direction the game is taking. At some point you'll come to the realization that Yoshi and his team will consider your opinion, but will apply only what they see fit. You will either like that, or you'll venture off and play whatever happens to be the most popular, latest MMO.
Takes far too long to have updates. They should have a team at least updating the aesthetics of the game in the meantime, getting back to basics, Final Fantasy looking armor, weapons, models, wild hairstyles and new looks, all that "easy stuff" that has no impact whatsoever on their precious battle system upgrades.
I'm sorry, but if anyone thinks this game has two years to get up to standard they're delusional. Hell, SE itself will release another FFO by then. This game needs to be complete and up to par with the newly-released MMOs this year, have good Christmas sales, or it's going to get flushed. They have 5 months left.
