Talent Trees are just so restrictive, though. Instead of adding options, they generally remove them. Now, I know cookie-cutter builds are inevitable, but I don't believe that having a system that could possibly accelerate the process is the best road to take.

What MMOs have you played?

I've played LOTRO, and naturally FFXI. I am currently playing Rift, and am finding it very restrictive.

For example, in Rift, it seems like combining the abilities of Paladin with Justiciar would make all the sense in the world. But because Paladins are a Warrior Profession, and Justiciars are a Cleric Profession, no matter what back story you may have for your character, no matter how many quests you character completes, your character can NEVER have access to both Soul Trees.

As an old-school D&D player, I find that restriction hinders the RPG aspect of the Rift MMORPG. Of course, that is only my personal opinion.
