I can understand giving incentive for people to run the DF, like they did with Roulette, but that's about it. Like open up a BCoB1 Roulette and a EX Primal Roulette.
Since the transition between FFXI and FFXIV: ARR. Imo it was much easier to gather parties and accomplish things in FFXI than it is in FFXIV. The FFXI community was more friendly and helpful in many ways. I think FFXI had a learning curve to it to where by around level 20 people either stayed or left because they couldnt handle the way it was played, This in turn lead to people that really wanted to play the game being the higher people and willing to help because it was set up to be a party game, there wasn't much to do without a party for the most part.

I quit FFXI at around level 10~ish for this reason. I don't think people REALLY feel the learning curve in ARR until after they've already hit level 50. At that point you've got to give them a couple months to....do stuff.

I knew FFXI was going to be bad for me when I left Windhurst for the very first time, and got served by a level 1 mandragora

You see, that was the glory of it all as odd as it sounds...some people get it, some don't. No matter what level you were, there was always a rabbit that could stomp you into the ground if you weren't careful. I don't remember but I'm sure there was a mandragora to match the rabbit example. There was a sense of danger, and a good bit of challenge to do, well, anything. The community was better for it, too because you HAD to work together with other people and make friends. Most times the friendships came from having to work together.
