If you make a post, and then go back and edit it, you can get around the stupid 1000 character limit. And I'd love to see the draw-out buff/debuff tank you describe.

Man, I wish I could find that quote of Yoshi's on ninjas in ffxiv. From what I recall, he didn't say anything about ninja tanking or not - he was specifically referring to blink tanking not being viable. Also, I think the ninja tank quote from ffxi devs really gets taken out of context. The second highest evasion skill class with enmity on their AF and shadows that prevented direct damage - if not meant to main tank, they were certainly meant to avoid direct damage for some reason (but FFXI devs did strange things all the time so what do we know). Maybe as a SATA target back before TA was buffed...
Either way, while I miss the coolness of ninja tanks, I wouldn't complain about how they are implemented in FFXIV. But we do not need more people playing new DPS jobs without additional tank jobs (and healers). Dungeon queues and game progression will get pretty silly, no matter how many new tank mounts are added.
You are actually forgetting that the true intent with Ninja in XI was NEVER supposed to be used as blink tanking. It was a DPS job from the start, it's just that the playerbase found out that it could be used to tank. Who are the geniuses who found that out? The Japanese players.
Well.. here's a little more evidence to support that Ninja is coming.
What else do you know that runs along treetops?

It'd encourage me to tank because I really hate axes and sword/shield combo. That is literally the only reason I don't tank and I imagine there are others like me who just didn't like the weapon choices.they implied quite heavily that the gun weilder was going to be a support class at the last event they went to, I cant find the link but im sure someone has it.
Ive said this before, ill say it again. Adding a new tank class would not encourage more people to tank, because the people who dont tank dont want to tank.
From the very same reason I refuse to roll a melee DPS. I want a sword and heavy armour DPS, not either a monk or a dragoon. I'd sell my soul and throw a can of peanuts with it, if I'd get a heavy armoured samurai DPS, or a variation of warrior/paladin DPS class - something like black knight or such.
I often wondered if they would introduce "engineer" as branch off of gunner, for as a DPS or I could even see it as a tank class. Gun Shields anyone?
Perhaps engineer could have pets or traps, and bombs... Could be interesting. I guess we'll learn more here in a few weeks.![]()

Final Fantasy's Dark Knight is exactly what you want

It would encourage me to tank too. Like this guy I'm not a fan of the weapon choices. I'm not a fan of shields but i love swords like katanas or greatswords.
Same. I was hoping to see at least one of the two in the game by now, but neither have come to fruition. Still hoping!
