Everyone seems so intent that the dagger class is going to be DPS...but lets not forget, if this is Ninja we are talking about, we might get a revival of Utsusemi blink tanking! Now that would be something else :P
Could this game even support blink tanking? So many things still hit you even when you're out of range because when it checked your position .03 secodns ago or whatever you were in range. I'd hate to see squishy tanks taking damage from stuff when they thought they avoided it and or having to run around like a chicken with its head cut off because the tank keeps rotating the damn boss

Mechanic-wise, how do you think a new tank class will handle tanking? I forecast something that will make much more use of Parry.

Same question for healing, I guess. We've got reactive healing with WHM and proactive healing with SCH, what else could they do? Personally, I'd love to see Chemist as an item-based healer.
Rift had a healing class that did group/raid wide healing whenever the healer did damage to the target. So there's that.

they implied quite heavily that the gun weilder was going to be a support class at the last event they went to, I cant find the link but im sure someone has it.

Ive said this before, ill say it again. Adding a new tank class would not encourage more people to tank, because the people who dont tank dont want to tank.
That's not really true. There are plenty classes/jobs people don't like because of mechanics or looks or whatever. It may be temporary, but you'll still most likely increase the number of tanks. If only because it's something new for people to try.

I tend to like healing more, but there are a lot of healing classes in games that I just don't like to play. If I don't like the mechanics, I wouldn't play a healer. So there is value to the idea that more tanking jobs would increase the amount of tanks. Also gives current tanks a reason to play the new class/job for crossover skills. If they do cross over.

That would be kind of cool. Forget what soul that was, but a lot of people were those mages. I was a cleric, did the water stuff, so it was raid wide healing for the most part. But it was hard to do single target healing. Rift was pretty unforgiving. At least it was at launch.

I doubt they would be "blink tank" if Ninja was a tank class they would most likely aim for "Parry" tank, where warrior is semi parry/blood shield, Paladin is DMG mitigation/shield blocking/parry. They could release a 3rd tank job that works under the concept of "parrying" for dmg mitigation with abilities that increase parry rate/dmg absorbed through parry as well as reactive abilities through parrying and abilities which can guarantee an evasion.

Priest in WoW also did something similar, it would heal the nearest person to the monster you attacked if they needed healing, and you built stacks to get an Archangel buff (wings and everything, was actually really cool) that gave you a massive spell speed buff.

Would kind of suck to have a new ranged physical class also get pigeon holed into a dps/support role. I'm putting all of my hopes and dreams into Machinist! Just think about it, it'd fit pretty well in the games lore. It's also not a gun class we expected!
    Or engineer like Cid !!!

I am currently playing PLD, and enjoying tanking. But if a gunblade dodge/parry tank is introduced, you can bet I'll change my main.

I thought I read somewhere that Yoshi mentioned that he wont be repeating the mistakes that were made in FF11. The ninja tank was specifically mentioned.

I'm going to have to double post, because these forums have retarded character limits.

    1) Ninja - SE already said blink tanking was a mistake. They never meant for Utsusemi to be used that way, but by the time they caught it it was too late to change the class itself. For me, in XIV, I want ninja to be a ranged dps the way they were in FFT. Add some new crafts for shurikens (or anything really, as ninja could throw any weapon in FFT). Or, if you want to get nifty, make it so they throw "shadows" of weapons ala Utsusemi. They still have the ninja "magic" feel to it, and you won;t have to buy a stupid amount of weapons. Just buy one, and your ninja throws utsusemi shadows of it at enemies.

I can definitely see ninja being a ranged class.

    2) Samurai - I can see this being a new tank with a new and interesting mechanic. Use the samurai ability from FFT (Draw Out: “Samurai job command. Unleashes the mystical powers contained within katana.”). Make it so katanas have special properties aligned to tanking/dps, and have samurai have abilities that augment and support these properties. You'd have a unique tank, and something that doesn't detract from the job itself (It's often said that the katana is the heart and soul of a samurai, both in reality and in games). Maybe a debuff/support tank, with the draw out abilities applying debuffs on the enemy while using support abilities to buff your own tankiness.

This is how I see it playing out, personally. Or rather, the way I WANT it to play out. I suppose we'll see in the end what it'll be like. I can dream, can't I? (2/2)
