May we please have a name change option?

Pardon if this has come up a lot before (been away for some months!), but it would be exceedingly good to have the ability to change our characters' names, maybe with the use of a Fantasia.

Other than having its own value for the simple sake of customization, this would be especially good if you plan on adding new races at any point.

From a world-building standpoint, a lot of effort was put into flavorful naming schemes for Eorzea's races, and it really sucks when you might want to try a different race but have something exceedingly inappropriate for anything but the one you started as (case in point, mine can only be for a female Seeker of the Sun miqo'te. )

There might be some coding hurdles to jump through to make it possible, but I sincerely believe it'd be worth it, and welcomed by quite a few players.

If you don't mind a question though. I've noticed some other miqo'te with interesting names, with apostrophes and such. It brings the question, were there some more in depth lore for their language for them in 1.0 or something? I haven't really found much to understand their naming conventions, other to realize that there is one.

you can change your name, switch the server, create an alt with the same name on the previous server and change back

voila, you have to change the name with your main, you only have to pay for 2 server transfers xD

At the beginning of 2.0, legacy characters were given for a complete Character re-creation, which was basically the Fantasia plus name change.
I bet any returning legacy player today would still have this option available to their legacy character.
It's already in the system, and I don't see it affecting the game balance or system load in anyway.
The question is whether SE is planning to separate this option by creating a potion of name change or something like that, to sell (read:extort) us for more money.
Come on SE, since you are already planning to SELL us the Fantasia, you might as well just throw in a little more bonus feature to make the purchase more worthwhile

There is, actually! For every race, at that, and it's kinda neat if you're into this sort of thing. There are "naming convention" posts stickied on the Lore forum.

Have a glimpse down the rabbit hole of nerdiness: This character's name translates as "Anzu of the Zu tribe, daughter of Mahri Nunh".

technically you already can change name. It's just an expensive procedure:

1: Move your character to another server.
2: Create a character on your original server with the same name as your main character.
3: Move your main character back to your original server. Name change prompt will then occur because your alt has taken your original character's name slot.
4: Delete the alt.

Though I guess this cannot be done if you have the subscription plan that limits you to one character per server :/

Presumably, since they char would still be the same and not a deleted and recreated character, they would remain in your blacklist with their new name and not [Deleted] so the trolling would be potentially minimal. The confusion however? That's another story.

Precisely this; this is how name-changes work in all other games. No lists are affected, and the name gets updated everywhere.

As far as the social issue of letting your friends, raid-mates, etc. know who you are, it's the same as rolling alts has always been in games like this.

I'm totally doing this - how much does a server transfer cost? Like 12 bucks? How long does it take? If its a total cost of $24, I would probably pay $15 to change my name anyways, so I'm only overpaying by 9 bucks, which isn't bad because everyone thinks my name is "I Hate Fates" Which...I mean...I kind of do, but that's not the intention.
