The chance a person attracted to a 4 year old would commit a crime against a 4 year old, is the same as a person attracted to 18 year olds would commit a crime against an 18 year old. So start putting up the entire male population on a potential rape list. Gotta keep the victims safe, and labeling a couple million of innocents as criminals is a cheap price to pay.

I actually would love for this to be more lore friendly. As one of the players who reads all the flavor text and quests I come across.. I really would love for it to be more fitted to lore. <3 Plus as others have said this i a grand way to side step all of the fighting presently going on. Or at the least that's my thoughts on it.

    edit:

also on the note of lalafell.. you do have to remember that according to the game lore there is nothing wrong with a lala being with another race. Heck go to costa del sol. There's a npc that boasts hes like 55 years old and is flirting with the miq'ote there.

On the same note... my husband plays a lalafell. I don't find it creepy in the slightest. When/if (due to the storm it caused i wouldn't be too shocked if they changed their minds on adding the system) the system whatever it may be called is released I know I'll be hooking up my character to his. For those who are blind.. no I don't play a Lala D; Also... on the note of them being all childlike. Personally I think my husband's character looks like a little old man but that's just me >_> I don't remember 4 year olds having facial hair and running about with weapons that were bigger then they are.

I'm fine with them as a race, but for anyone to be sexually attracted to one (and you can't say nobody is, there are a ton of people who are about every race in game) is downright creepy. I don't care if they're adults in lore but anyone attracted to a 4 year old's features should be put on some kind of watch list.

It is literally the best possible thing they could do, instead they'll probably just add something like that later on top of marriage, which will probably make matters worse.
It's a different matter that you're trying to address here. Love unions (let's not call them weddings) are often a feature of MMOs. They offer a lot of amusing tools (think RO as an example) or boost in power (in F2P). They are also a powerful tool when it comes to roleplay and community building.

Of course, couples are the first to benefit from it. But they are not the only ones. Some will use it only to get the advantages (usually, free tp to the mate or new inventory slots with a shared chest), some will use it for RP purpose. But the fact that it exists greatly changes how the players behave. They start socializing. To meet new people, to find the one they'll want to play with, share stuff, etc... They tend to group more, make a lot of non raiding/farming content just to be together and to hang out with friends (chocobo ride across Eorzea, let's picnic on top of Limsa's volcano ! ), or just gather to chat. I mean, LSs are fine, FCs are great, but nothing is like talking face to face to your friends.

And when one of your friends find their mate, the ceremony resulting is always the occasion to meet new friendly people whom you'll get along with, or not. Friendship, rivalry, love (pixelized or not, I know some friends who met & married thanks to MMOs), all these are greatly dependent on what you're doing with the people around you.

Who here never wanted even once to just start chatting with random people met here and there (esp Mor dhona, but the spam there could be unbearable for serious discussions ) just because you can ? Who did make it happen ? And who continues to meet these people you met and loved to talk to ? These occasions are still way too rare in FFxiv, because there is quite close to no reason to do it apart, well, socializing for the sake of it. That's why some big community events which create these bonds are necessary, and why a "union ceremony" (temp name being marriage for now) would be greatly beneficial.

Though a platonic pairing system with the same in-game benefits than a union would be basically the same, exit the controversy, it would not have the same effect on the community at all. Most people would just pair with static mates to get the bonus and never do anything apart that. No more socializing, no more community events. It would (for a part of players, not for all) resume it to be a "5-mins-and-done" contract you make to get free bonuses.

SE is going to have to debate whether or not in the end it will be worth it to have such limitations. I agree with the OP that this would leave it open for many more people to participate and would sidestep the whole issue. Or SE could just grow a pair and follow what other companies have done - like Bethesda, Lionshead, and Bioware. Massive companies. Massively successful brands. All three have SS relationships all over them. And you know what? Not one of them suffered a loss because of it. It's just not going to cause the mass exodus doom and gloom folks are predicting.

I like this idea by Kuwagami, its the greatest fix to one of the greatest issues I seen on the forums. The forums have never been so fired up since the "marriage system" was announced to be added. I think a neutral system that meets game Lore is the best way to roll here and would benefit Square-Enix greatly. It would save them a lot of headache arguments and only the bigots would continue to complain about after this idea is made and put up.

I actually stopped playing female character when I decided I wanted to be Lalafell, deleted one of my characters that a turned female Lalafell over it lol. When I play female char I play for sexy and female Lalafells just don't have that sexy spark lol.

Due to recent actions taken on threads of a similar topic, I wanted to post a quick reminder to keep this thread on the original topic of the thread. Focusing the discussion on the lore of an in game system and alternate naming possibilities is certainly an interesting subject, one which I will be following outside of moderation to see how these ideas progress. However, if the thread does go off topic or becomes inflammatory, actions may need to be taken against the thread (making it invisible or locking it) or anyone found violating the rules of the forums. If you feel that there is a violation of the rules, please do report it and we will investigate it and handle it appropriately.

OP, edit this into the original post, would you kindly? I'd rather not see this topic locked and sunk.

We hope that you do follow up with the dev team or whoever your contact is. I know you are doing your job with locking threads but it feels an AWFUL lot like we're just being silenced because SE doesn't want to deal with the issue.

This particular idea is one of the better ones short of not proceeding with a marriage system at all.
