Depends on how you said it. Sometimes people that are trying to help come off as elitist because of how they word it. I do think there's nothing wrong with letting people figure out the mechanics on their own, though. It's what I do. I don't learn from watching videos or following tutorials for rotations. They do absolutely nothing for me. I learn by experience. Perhaps this guy was like that and the leader knew it. Perhaps the leader felt you were pushing the issue too much. Just say it once and then let them be.

Depends on what the party was set up for. If it was a stated learning party then yeah, learn by doing things and making mistakes. If it's stated as a win/farm party though you don't get to waste my time by figuring it out for yourself. I'm going to say something if I see someone consistently making mistakes. How nice that comes off can vary from day to day but I try to be understanding where possible.

We have no idea how she wrote it really. We would need the chat itself but even then
the problem is via text is that it's very hard to know the person's tone. So he could of took it the wrong way if OP
meant no harm by it. When I try to help I try to lighten the mood by using smilie's like this:
    :3 c: (: ^^
so people know I mean no harm. It helps. n-n

I don't ever use party finder, so I never have this whole issue of "how the party was set up." I'm pretty sure, though, anyone with a brain between their ears wouldn't go into a party explicitly stating what it's for. This doesn't sound like this was the case. If someone consistently makes mistakes, I'll ask them if they know how the fight goes or if there's an area they are unsure about. I've found I've gotten a better reaction by letting them give their perspective than just assuming I know exactly what's wrong and giving them my two cents.

The community is turning more and more into just Elitists and Bad A-holes....

What you did is by no means elitist though. You simply gave him/her a tip on how to improve, and any good player (casual or hardcore, doesn't matter) will listen and learn...

    He was a bad A-hole.

There is a lot of elitists in the game though, and people aren't just calling "good players" elitists (that occur a lot too)... If you yell at people and kick them (or even blacklist them) for doing something wrong, then you're an elitist.

If in your situation, you yelled at that player and didn't try to help him improve, followed by kicking him (if leader)... Then you would be an elitist.

I have managed to stay somewhat clear of the most elitist players now though, and the the other type of player is the most dominant now... I've lost count how many times I've seen players doing almost everything wrong, and when you try to give him/her a tip on how to improve (friendly), they just go mental and shouts. -_- To kick those players, can be okay...

As you pointed out, the SMN thanked you in the end. It was his FC master who kept going.

To me it sounds like he did not know how to protect his FC buddy, so he did not even heard you out. It was all subjective on his part.

The term "elitist" just gets thrown out there often to hide someones incapability to argue on a healthy level, or to don't have to admit someone is right (ego).

Maybe you could choose your words more carefully bext time so he'd feel like you're trying to help and not just tell him off.

Maybe you could choose to read a thread before responding next time and you won't look so dim.

I think we're all avoiding the most bizarre part of this story.. Why the FC leader who you never met feel the need to follow up with you about your comments? I've never told my FC leader about those types of interactions... I assume because they don't care.
