I dont know why people are so against wyvern pets. I personally feel that the current dragoon in ARR has all the 'personal' skills they need. They already have lots of thrusts, and in fights that has more than 2 phases, most of the time I only have time to do a 1 full thrust before being forced into full reset. Arr dragoons has 4 jumps: 2 damaging, 1 aoe, 1 hate reduce while ffxi dragoon had like 3 iic, 2 damaging, 1 hate reduce (I think they added two more but it was to replace the 2 damaging one they already had but they may have added more). So yeah, they have all the thrusting attacks and jumping they need imo. What are they gonna add next on cap level increase? More thrusts? Just getting to the first full thrust takes long enough as it is. More jump variations? I dont even remember kain having this much jumps.
Wyverns added variety to ffxi dragoons imo. They had their stabbing attacks, they had their jumps and they have wyvern breaths with wyvern. You could have 3 types of wyvern (offensive, hybrid, healing) and it depended on your subjob (similar to cross class except only any one other job) and all they had to do was either use weapon skills or cast spells. Imagine using a full thrust and your wyvern will follow suit with a fire breath, or using mantra and having your wyvern cast healing breath on you.
When they increase level cap and introduce new skills, each job /will/ get stronger in repertoire and potency. I personally dont mind seeing the dragoon not growing upwards with the other jobs but gaining a new ally instead. They can even get creative with it and be not as similar as xi wyverns.
Ugh, you lack more reading comprehension than I do. What part of NOT EXPLICITLY ANNOUNCED led you to believe I thought it was coming? He has mentioned it, has said there are plans and went into detail so they ARE coming sometime. I didn't say soon, did I?
Is "please look forward" a literal translation? Isn't it more like TV-speak for "stay turned"?
Stay tuned is SUCH a better phrase in English... I have no doubt the Japanese are sincere when they say "please look forward to it", but that comes off a little snarky.
Except he didn't say they were coming for sure. He said it was possible so maybe they would come. But nowhere did he say this is something they are working on.
You are taking the last sentence completely out of context. He says he has plans on the STORY not on IMPLEMENTING A DRAGOON PET.We receive many similar questions. Probably we could bring you the pet Wyvern anytime in the near future if we wanted to, but at the same time if we want that Wyvern to have the ability to attack the enemies along with the Dragoon then that means we need to reduce the strength of the Dragoon itself because we need to make sure there’s a good balance in the party. So I’m sure that’s not what players want – they wouldn’t want us to reduce the strength that the Dragoon class has already. So as long as the Wyvern doesn’t have that kind of special power then I’m sure we could implement it, so sometime in the future maybe you will see the pet Wyvern. We do have some plans and when you see how the story evolves around Reborn it might make sense to you.
Actually this is the last sentence <We do have some plans and when you see how the story evolves around Reborn it might make sense to you.> Know how that ends up as, is up for debate. If they did add it would be at expansion so could balance it out with the level cap increased etc, but really who knows what plans are in development. Their have been allot of comments other then english forums on the subject enough to get his attention.
First post! ^.^
As someone who mains DRG, I was most interested to read the answers to inquiries about the Wyvern's potential return in XIV. From the interview, I gathered the opposite. And the response makes perfect sense to me.
Personally, I've never been a fan of pet classes in RPGs so I am satisfied with the more traditional Final Fantasy style of DRG currently available in the game.
I'm not opposed, however, to seeing these in the game in some fashion or form. To me, the most sense without rebalancing the entire class would be to add some sort of unique, DRG exclusive mount earned through questing or some other accomplishment in the game. Not unlike say the Warrior's Warbear mount.
Of course this is all my personal opinion. I'm sure plenty others feel different about it then I do.
