Knowing that the base Class will be Musketeer, it seems fitting that the Job might be Corsair. Especially since the primary gun-wielders in the game's setting have a naval/pirate background. It may also be a dodge tank or support class.

I would be more than okay with the class if that was its Job and had either possibility for its role.

Gun mage/chemist is actually a fun idea it would give them a great opportunity for a role reversal job on mp/tp if they make it the same job. Give it a native trow ability to consume potions bringing the consumables option back into the game to help crafters out, that has scaling traits to increase potency at certain stages. TP consumed based on the distance from caster to target. MP consumed for ele shots.

The kicker here is Yoshi has said no class/job will ever be dependent on consumables in XIV.

I think, even if COR is implemented, it will work very differently from how it did in XI. If it is still a support DD, I think we can expect that it isn't going to have the job specific rolls as it did before. Even if they used all 5 of the available job ability slots for rolls, that still puts them 5-6 classes/jobs short (counting the gun/dagger classes) and would allow no real uniqueness/versatility over it's base class beyond just rolls. And this isn't even taking into consideration the possibility of moves like Double Up. I am pretty sure the gambling aspect won't be a part of this game's job. Cor would need to be the starting class (or it's gambling abilities given to the starting class)just to have enough available moves to even make it feasible.

I think honestly it will be streamlined like the way brds are with their songs. Brds got 3 songs so far (4 if you wanna count swiftsong), each with their own specific time and situation to be used, an exclusive DPS ability, and an ability to enhance the potency of their songs. I would really expect corsair (if it even gets added) to work the same way. 2-3 support abilities, ones that serve different functions from those of brd, an exclusive DPS move or two, and maybe even a "roll booster."

This is of course, all speculation, about a job that may never even be added no less, but based on how they've designed jobs in this game so far, I think that's somewhere close to how COR would be designed for this game. What I will say for sure, and this applies to pretty much all of the future job speculations I've seen posted is that, looking at how they did things in XI is definitely looking in the wrong direction. You'd be much better off at looking at how they've done things with the currently existing jobs in XIV. With few exceptions, the XIV jobs are not based on the XI jobs. They have mostly been drawn from scratch using the original job concepts, combined with basic MMO class/ability structure. They are as similar to the jobs of XI as they are to the classes of WoW or Everquest. My 2 gil.

I didn't say anything about job rolls. I said it would most likely be a buffing job, hopefully the first true support job unlike BRD which is a 75% DPS/25% Support job that happens to be ranged. Making a 2nd 75% DPS/25% Support jop that also happens to be ranged isn't giving us a much needed versatility of play style options. I'm expecting the actual class (Musketeer) to start seeing support actions (buffs), gun actions, and perhaps actions that involve instant ranged magic dmg (perhaps including debuffs). And I see the job (Corsair) having very specific buffs or mechanics that affect buffs (gambling).

Corsair is a job name. It will not be a class even if it isn't assigned to the already established Musketeer's class (gun user) which is confirmed via the Musketeer's guild which has existed even before the 1.0 version of the game was released (Beta and perhaps even Alpha).

Of course, you want to include all the sources you can into your speculation and you are correct about jobs in most cases not being as they were in FFXI.

We have the SMN which is basically a Warlock from WoW w/o demon form. A job that has high DPS via DOTs with a pet doing less than 1/3 of a good SMN's total DPS. About 1/3 of an avg SMN. A pro SMN can top the DPS meter of an avg party (be it parser or simply just getting #2 on the aggro bar w/o anyone using Quelling Strikes) w/o the pet at all. Which means the SMN does not need its pet to be a viable DPS. On top of that the SMN is generally known in FF for it's broad array of summons and versatility. In FFXIV if you exclude that you technically don't need the pet except for in EG then you have only 3 pets, of which you only use Garuda because Ifrit sucks in all scenarios and using Titan (which can actually be useful in an avg party when fighting trash or adds) is likely to get you yelled at just for having him visible (and no there is nothing for SMN to solo with Titan-egi tank because everything is instanced). Quite a fail at a class/job that is focused on pets and versatility.

Then we have the BRD. A DPS job "focused" on buffing the party with 3 songs at its disposal. 1/3 of the songs at its disposal, Paeon, is not used (reminds me of the SMN and 2/3 of its pets). Ballad is only used in progression parties (in some cases not even then if the healers are pro at managing their MP). And then Foe is spammed in farming groups whenever possible just because it makes the fight go faster.

Now I have no issue with the concept of either of these jobs, and I could care less if they are like a job in FFXI or a class in WoW. But when there are vital mechanics to a job that are broken or gimmicks that simply are not used I have a massive issue. Sure you can look at how SE made BRD in FFXIV but making COR just like BRD (even w/o said exampled issues that were just stated) this would be another massive issue because we would have 2 very similarly played jobs when SE has so many options available to them.

I'm sorry if my tone is a bit irritated, but I don't want to see any more core concepts of jobs botched and never even once acknowledged by SE.

Now don't misinterpret what I said. I didn't say I thought that COR would be the base class, I was only pointing out that it would be the only possible way it could work in the FFXI way. I would also mention that while Paeon isn't as useful as the others, it does have it's uses. I often like to use it during the first phase of turn 4 due to the TP intensive nature of the fight to help alleviate the nonstop tp burn. It's not as big of a deal now, but it helped a lot before echo was added to it, and I'd still have my MP back in time to use ballad or requiem by phase 4-5.

Once I read that it "wasn't what players are expecting it to be", I thought of Orator.
