Some people don't like the pressure of having to lead a group or have your success hinge on the group's success. I've played tanks in games before and it can feel horrible if something you did caused everything to fall apart. But there's also the flip side to that as well; it feels great knowing that YOU were the one that decided who lived and died. That goes with both heals and tank.

oh god it one of these type of people . And the bread and butter of MMO's was not always about grinding gear , the greatest MMO's were never about grinding gear , that's just the dull way all modern MMO's have become , it's sad to hear people talking about grinding gear and 'spoon feeding'. I could see you on an episode of south park .

The grandfather of the modern MMO, EQ, was all about grinding levels and AAs. We camped for hours to get a chance to roll on a nice piece of gear and camp killed for rep so that we could get equipment.

Even MMO precursers, MUDs, had grinding in the equation.

Name a large player base fantasy MMO that isnt / wasn't gear centric.

Regarding DPS queues: It may be different on other server groups but on mine as a melee DPS I never have to wait long to get a DF group. It's usually between 4-10 min leaning more towards 6-7 minutes.

It's ranged DPS that have incredibly long queues because a lot of people are queuing up as them for whatever reason. Bosses blow with 2 BRDs as your DPS but it keeps happening.

It's the bread and butter of this MMO, but not all of them. Some actually have enough content that you don't have to keep repeating the same dungeons over and over unless that's what you like to do.

LOTRO, for instance, has tons of content. I played that avidly from the time it released in 2007 until FFXIV:ARR came out last year, and I never came anywhere near to running out of content. Now, that's playing with nine main characters (as well as several lesser-played alts), and doing all the regional quests, plus spending time on crafting and other activities. Many other players stick with just the main storyline, skipping all the optional stuff, and they might reach endgame within a couple months. It depends on how you want to play it. It has endgame raids for players who like that, but it also has tons of questing for people who prefer that. And (particularly with a few alts) it's easy to stay busy for years on either sort of content.

ARR, in contrast, is much more limited. It's still a great game, and I think it's a lot of fun, but it's only fun if you go with the pattern it's designed around. It lacks the breadth of content that allows a game like LOTRO to cater simultaneously to a wide range of players.

A healer or tank will generally get shorter queues, but the game makes no distinction between ranged DPS and melee DPS. Both are filling the same DPS slots, and both will take just as long in the queue.

This is incorrect regarding queue times. The DF will, if it can, put both a melee and a ranged DPS in your group (or 2 of each in 8 man stuff). As I posted above currently Ranged DPS is in larger supply and generally has much longer wait times than melee DPS and you can test this out yourself just queueing up for dungeons. 2.2 actually changed the "average time" while queued and you get different times shown if you are a melee or a ranged DPS when previously it was averaged between the two.

What I read here is the same complaint in other mmo’s. It’s how the elitist players in the game ruin the enjoyment of the vast majority of other players that do not have the time or perhaps the skill to be the perfect player. You must have Ixx gear or you can’t play. You must cast this spell at this time and stand here or you get flamed with LTP. In this game the problem is even more severe. From the very first instance I walked into a lvl 50 across the board in ALL classes rushes you through it without as much as a hello. It is exactly this behavior that turn many people off to grouping.
