People simply weren't direct when they wanted to be douches. Party sucks and you want to leave? Unplug. Other HNM LS showed up? Spam some emotes, crowd around the spawn area, get a bot, try to make smallchat with their main claimer, cheer the monster on when he's kicking their ass, etc. Someone slighted you in an exp/merit/whatever party 2 months ago? Bar him from your group/LS. Someone barely mentions another MMO? Start freaking out calling them noobs/casuals/bads/whatever. Someone didn't play the flavor of the month/season DD class? Worthless player.

FFXI players were very petty and vindictive.

It's not just exclusive to FF11 these days, i don't think. I think more & more people are growing impatient OR we have more & more "casuals" (who likely "grew up") who don't have time to fart around so they prefer to get in & get out.
I've been seeing it for years, they get to a point and because they've made no bonds to the game they usually quit once they get XYZ gear or whatever.
To further this play-style & attitude analogy, i used to only go around helping people, but then it gets to a point where you don't even want to bother anymore because they'll probably just quit soon anyway.
These days i try to analyze & judge a persons play-style/attitude before i decide if i should help them.

It really is about the journey & the people you play with. Without it we're just barbarians.

EDIT: If there were some kind of GUI Orb-color Icon, this could help with highly crowded areas where you can't see the Orb. Someone recommend this to devs please.

But there were elitist assholes in xi, and there were people who were "ME ME ME ME" in xi, and those people switched over to XIV in the end, cause they couldn't handle not being the center of god damn attention lol.

I don't particularly like how your statements seem to make everyone in FFXIV sound like they are rude and that they are the very worst of people from other games.

    You say:
like no one in this game would stop to heal you if you were soloing and dying
but I have on several occasions helped people. I've even been fishing, seen a new player running around me fight and purposely switched over to my CON to heal and buff them. I then spent about two hours fishing and helping them learn about the game, how to set stats etc because no one had told her.

I have seen people kill something, seen people rank up while fighting, crafting etc and auto translated 'Congratulations' or cheered them on. I have randomly helped people, started conversations with people on and on.

I don't do it because I expect (and require) anything back from them, I do it because it is the polite thing to do. I can understand some people wanting or expecting appreciation for doing something nice, but some people aren't like that unfortunately. But people can continue to be kind, maybe get a response and keep going with their day knowing they did something that helped a person regardless of if they were praised for doing it or not. Or people can become like them, stop doing it because their ego isn't being fluffed up and aren't getting their 'omg you helped me your so wonderful' praising attention which will make the community even worse.

I don't need someone to praise me to know I did a good deed, and please don't lump everyone together saying "no one in this game would do" whatever you think they wouldn't do. Maybe your server is like that, but I've met quite a few kind and helpful people on mine and I would in no way state that they were "the dregs of" whatever game they came from as you stated.. Nor would I say they none of them would not help someone if help was needed.

As to the OP's statement: I always remember that a lot of people are playing on under powered computers due to the fact that they want to play and are sick of waiting for the PS3 to come out. I know many people that have delay issues and sometimes it takes a bit for everyone around them to pop up. While, in your case, this doesn't seem to be the fact I tend to consider lag could be their issue, and if someone stops on me while I'm crafting I wait until I am done and simply move.

Unfortunately, no matter what MMO people go too, there will always be those are not the kindest people but I feel that I am lucky in the fact that for the most part I have always had a pleasant experience. While it would be lovely if everyone was polite in FFXIV and follow some sort of ethic, like the real world, it probably won't happen because everyone is different and believe in acting in their own way... sometimes that doesn't include being polite. But I praise you for wanting to try.

Can't tell you how good it felt to read that. I'd about given up seeing anyone with that kind of attitude on forums.

I'd like to add from my own point of view, even if someone is rude to me (particuliarly if it doesn't look intentional), I try to consider that they might have had a bad day, and give them the benefit of the doubt. Also, I was really shy growing up, so I consider that too.

I like to help people in game whenever I can without expecting anything in return. Sadly, I have come across some people who are quite rude even when you do help them out. I am a casual gamer though.

Much appreciated... I don't know, helping people just seems the right thing to do. I help with charity work, I am a teacher, and I do it because I want to do it and because it's making someones life better... lol or just helping out their character in a game.

I also agree, if someone is rude the first time I tend to brush it off. We don't know whats going on with that person in their RL, and I don't assume to know. If they are rude multiple times then I will probably just stay away from them and try not to interact, but that is their doing by their actions, not mine.

Also I know how you feel, I was shy until I started performing and singing heehee, then I got a lot better after that! Have a lovely day!

Appreciated! I also respect anyone who can just be kind for the sake of being kind... not because they expect something. Maybe that is whats wrong with our community? Too many people expecting something back for being kind... not enough people willing to be kind just to do it... but I don't honesty know... for the most party my community on my server is very nice.

Aren't you the one I had the long convo with on a thread, I believe so! You were very kind, I'd love to talk with you more!

It's sad to say that but i'm sure once we will have to pay for playing, most of these "rude" people will leave too, (and i verified it often with people who applied into our LS and said they will just leave once it won't be free), Certain of those players don't care about others, in my case, we have accepted lots of people, helped them, gave some crafted gears and all and one day they left without saying something even not on the forum.

So, like lots of LS we have to break for firing those who left, then rebuilt over and over again....

Once we will have to pay and once the game will be better, the community should be better too

Curious observation. Isn't it interesting how majority of all threads go so far off topic from the OP?

I have a hunch that the reason why he stood there was because he was in first person view. It doesn't really matter though, I will hold no grudge against him. Anyway, the main reason for this thread was to add a new page to the lodestone.
