I see your point but lives letter questions are a completely different thing in my opinion. I believe it has been said before that SE will not discuss how they try to combat the RMT situation. That would defeat the purpose.

General forum discussion is a better example of the day to day concerns that crop up in the game.

enjoying your banter.. not bored, at least you have some spirit. I really don't think things likes showing your roe, or
making fat humes are really on the minds of most players. I see general discuss as a vocal, minor part of the community
that complain about just about anything. the only complaint I seen lately I agree with is Atma farming is too random.
there is really no reason it should be such a grind since the animus quest is already grindy without the frustration of RNG added to it.

The best part is that my server (Diabolos) is locked for character creation, so my RL friends are playing on other servers until they're allowed to create characters on mine. But I'll still get 5-10 RMTs added to my blacklist every single day, depending on how much I'm online. Current count is 6 B-Listed, one of which was deleted. Only 2 reasons make any sense.
1) RMTs already have several hundred characters created on my server before it was creation-locked, that haven't been account banned yet, and they're just using up several of them each day
2) RMTs are able to bypass the character creation lock
At the time of this post, the NA Servers of Balmung, Behemoth, Diabolos, Hyperion, Exodus, Excalibur, Gilgamesh , Leviathan, Ultros, & Sargatanas are all locked. So if you're blacklisting new spammers everyday, there's probably a VERY major problem. (INB4: Locked statuses get updated 5 times a day)

On that topic... I didn't mind the atma grind. It was nice to have some "old school" mmo style mechanics for a change. Rather than the neon billboard saying "I'm an NPC with a quest! Talk to me & I'll give you loots!"

I want to chime in here about everybody who wants /tell to be restricted to friends. I think this is a pretty anti-social idea, and actually way more annoying that dealing with RMT spammers. Friends lists would get quickly bogged down, and you could always argue "well, for short term conversations you could just add someone to your list, and then remove them later", but does that really seem more efficient than simply ignoring the spammer and going on with your day?

I agree that something needs to be done about this, but I don't have a great solution that doesn't make the game a little bit worse. SE bans thousands of RMT accounts at a time, rather frequently. As long as people are buying gil, though, RMT will continue to have a presence. Expecting it to be eliminated is like trying to get advertisers to stop showing their ads. Fat chance, and just a fact of life that has to be dealt with.

I think most of the accounts RMT use are probably legitimate accounts that they have obtained access to illegitimately, or accounts purchased from players who have quit the game see RMT as a way to get some money back. Banning legitimate accounts is tricky business, since the original account holder is likely unaware there account has even been compromised. Once RMT have an account, new characters are created on various servers for specific purposes. Farming, Spamming, etc.

I think people generally underestimate how sophisticated RMT is. They know how to do what they do very well, and they have operations in hundreds of online games. They've learned over the years how to not get caught. Whatever you try to throw at them, they learn how to get around it.

I call BS on anything SE said they have done to detour RMT. My blacklist is full after 3 weeks subscription and im still getting a tell every 30 seconds.
There is plenty they could do to slow down the harassment, stuff that would not have any negative impact on players.
The most widely suggested being 1. a privacy filter for private messages and 2. a small delay in how often you can send a /tell, even a 1 second delay would cut the spam to a tolerable level. Neither of would take the devs more than a day to implement into the game.

They just have to tweak the server and prevent a person to send wisp to more than 5/10 different people (who are not in your friend-list or guild) per hour.
There is no valid or legit reason who can explain why the server let rtm send hundred of wisps per minutes.
