Our tank stands as far in The Avatar's hitbox as possible, grabs hate on the Dreadnaught. Once the Dreadnaught is at him, he takes a few steps back as to pull the Dreadnaught further up so it won't cleave the Brainjack target, then moves back in while keeping the Dreadnaught facing away from the group. It takes some practice but once you have it down it shouldn't be an issue with the positioning.
If doing it that way, when brainjack happen. Dreadnod will flip over to attack the person on pair with tank. (since the tank will move closer to the center from the start point which you said to be far from boss)
