Let me ask, what is the difference between these two? "You earned 25 XP + 25 Rested Xp!" instead of "You earned 50XP - 25 Fatigue XP"
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Agreed. I think GD already helps in this department nicely.
Speaking of Guardian Deity's, has the dev team touched on exactly what it is they plan on doing with our GD choices when we created our characters yet?
Wheres news on our hard core content? I don't think rested exp is going to kill the game <_< that's just silly

They don't do the same thing they do opposite things. Surplus creates Fatigue which lowers your SP gains, Rested XP gives you bonus XP for down time. If you take out the part slowing you down and add a part that speeds you up you are essentially doubling XP rates.
You can already hit cap in a month there is no reason for both of these changes.
People don't like to be punished for playing a game for "too long" -- they like to be rewarded for putting the game down and having a life. Even if 25 + 25 and 75 - 25 still both equal 50, which looks better to you when you have 10,000 SP to go? Perception is everything.
Ironically, WoW originally wanted to implement a rested system almost exactly like FFXIV has (its caveat was it DID have a 200% modifier for when you logged for an extended period of time). They changed it to the current 200% rested exp system because all the alpha players hated it. I love it when history repeats itself.
Edited because I fail at math and reading.

I'm allergic to effort.
I'm by the opinion that if they want to implement this, they have to nerf experience gains. It's easy to rank up with Surplus, and without you'll be ranking to 50 in no time.
What's wrong with MMOs today? That the community is so hopelessly ignorant of the genre that they needed someone to explain the terms rested bonus for them?
To me, that's the problem. That's the problem right there!
FFXIV players don't even know what's out there! No wonder they are so happy with the total and utter drivel SE feeds them or, rather, leaves them salivating for.
what is wrong with MMOs today?REALLy?
is that a honest question? let alone the SE blah blah that i ll just assume that the guy is tying to troll but...
no really you really ask what is wrong with mmos today?
*ontopic*
i think rested xp is a horrible idea for any game.
anything that rewards you for NOT doing something is a horrible idea to me.
Other games have real xp when u are just afk... mb we should consider that too huh?
Like just leave ur character there and he xps on his own ... mmm...
u seriously dont see the flaw on that?

Ah, so I'm not the only one looking at the past as a roadmap for the future. =D
Despite gift's history of trolling, he's spot on here. A lot of people who followed XI never tried anything else. Granted, game A and game B can't be exactly the same, but having a point of reference for design philosophies, class mechanics, dynamics in group content and such helps when examining design and making comments. Yes, I'll admit it, City of Heroes, WoW and even Lineage II have stronger influence on my opinions as far as what I believe should be in an MMO than FFXI ever will (admitedly, this is because XI followed Everquest closely and I was not a fan of how things were done in EQ).
It reminds me of a conversation I once had with someone in my shell, which was me for about 20 minutes trying to explain to the guy the term HoT. I mentioned HoT and he would think Regen, though Regen and HoT's are not exactly the same. Another instance had me trying to explain abilities like Soul Tap and Body to Mind, and no one in the group seemed to understand that they are very different from Convert. Good times. >.>;;;

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
