The system can stay. It's because daggers are tied to another class, simple as that. Ranger's don't really need a secondary weapon unless it's another type of ranged weapon, e.g X-bow.

ive never played archer but im all for giving archer auto attack with weak infinite arrows. daggers, meh, sure, for close range soloing why not.
15 abilities each? what is this... Kindergarten?A jack of all trades WHM... what is this 1989?
That has absolute nothing to do with it. Both Thm and Conj use clubs and staves, the weapon itself means jack all, its just what they say the weapon is, weather it says Thaumaturge on it or weather it says Conjurer on it.
Having daggers that say Gladiator or something else or saying Archer will work fine.
The weapon type means NOTHING to how it works. In the end its just a 3D Mesh.
Woah guys.
Thief + boomerang.
Mind. Blowing.
exactly...and not only that, but they get 2 kinds of weapons each, staffs and wands. To me its just a lazy as hell excuse. I saw someone say "scrap the armory system" if its going to be a recurring problem" and id rather they do that then make these excuses. That has absolute nothing to do with it. If you're an archer, you shouldnt really be that close to the enemy in the first place. The auto attack melee is most likely just in case it gets close to you. Strong bows plus dagger weapons would make the class pretty over powered imo.
If you want two weapon types for Archers, do crossbows and normal bows or longbows and normal bows.

In other words the code is so screwed up that it would cause you to be both archer and gladiator at the same time.Hey guys! We asked Matsui about adding daggers for archers to use when fighting close range. He replied:
You are just going to have to learn how to strike first, strike hard, and give no mercy.I completely understand how you all feel, but when considering the nature of the Armoury system and class/job balance, we are not able to implement this.
Can't say I'm surprised after the disaster that Tanaka delivered.
PS: I hate the armory system, it over complicates things that were simple and worked well in XI like crafting while farming to make space, or gathering on your combat class so you can actually defend yourself against attack.
No worries, I'll likely quit when SE starts charging for this mediocre game.
Yeah I dont get how 3 classes in the game can equip shield, and be defensive/offencive with it. Seems to work pretty well.
Why add not a complimentary sub-weapon for ALL classes. Nunchucks for PUG is a GREAT idea for one :3
How will the archer mobs respond to players attacking them? They will be at an immediate disadvantage the moment the fight begins, unable to use their abilities. Also, its clear the dev team wants each class, especially the battle class, to be distinguishable from each other. The wheel of warriors with different weapons, each making up for the others shortcomings, remember? That has absolute nothing to do with it.
