Trouble taking down Ilfrit

Just re did this as glad lvl 20 after completing it many times with my mar/ war. Got told to learn how to tank and trash by some dick who then proceeded to leave before I could respond. The first fight try i just couldnt seem to hold the hate, it kept getting pulled off me, second try I built aggro straight away and held it until the nail showed up and no one seemed bothered to target it so I thought I would. Flash doesn't seem to work on Ilfrit and being lvl 20, I only have some basic moves, none of which seem to build aggro like overpower or provoke. What was I supposed to do. I hate that you can't send tells once the instance is over

FYI, Flash DOES work on Ifrit. He may resist the Blind effect, but it still increases enmity. Secondly, overpower and provoke should NOT be your main way of holding hate. Both classes get a three step combo (Fast Blade + Savage Blade + Rage of Halone for gladiator, Heavy Swing + Skull Sunder + Butcher's Block for marauder) which will be your main method of keeping enmity. Provoke is actually VERY ineffective, it gives a tiny amount of enmity. The use of provoke is that it sets your enmity to match whoever is highest, so it's more useful if someone suddenly gains a massive amount of hate, swapping tanks in 8-man content, or recovering after being raised.

Sounds like you are using a very low level weapon. Weapon damage makes a huge difference in holding emnity, Trya nd get a level 20 GLD weapon and you will see a massive improvement.

I had a level 15 pink, forget what it was called and a 15 shield, just upgraded to a lvl 20 and gain 1 on attack. I didn't think of that, maybe I'll see a difference now

Do not wait for the combo to not work. I mean, Fast Blade > Savage Blade > Flash > Rinse and repeat. Pop up your defensive abilities (or even offensive if any) and stick to your aggro combo + Flash. If you run out of MP do not spam Fast Blade > Riot Blade, just use it untill you can cast Flash again, then back to Fast Blade > Savage Blade > Flash > Fast Blade > Savage Blade...
Also, do not forget Fight or Flight + Shield Lob will give you a good chunk of hate aswell.
On the other hand, get Skull Sunder from Marauder (Lv.4) if you haven't already. It helps.

PS. On a side note, I don't know if you're that type of tank, but just in case: please, do not dance around the boss. Please.
